My hot take on the Southeast fires no one asked for. We’ve known this was coming since the 2025 hurricane failed to deliver landfalling systems in the region. La Niña and climate change compounded the ground water issues through fall, winter and now spring. Every indicator is as bad as it gets.

From March 15 through March 26 there have been... More than 100 monthly records & more than 700 daily records broken or tied. Since March 1 there have been more than 1,100 daily records broken or tied across the nation. Some record heat will remain through the weekend for areas of the Southwest.

The aggregate Daily Maximum Temperatures—going back to 1979—across a swath of the Southwest (incl., CA, NV, UT, CO, AZ, & NM) shows an extreme outlier in mid-to-late March of ≅26°C. This obliterates the highest values observed in March (by ≅5°C), but also tops any value seen through EARLY MAY! #cowx
