Lately I've been thinking a lot about iconic freeware and shareware games of my childhood, and trying to track them down. Today I remembered Krypton Egg. I didn't have a copy of this myself, but I could play it on a PC that belonged to my mother's best friend. It seemed magical.

After four days of bruteforcing and spending over $900, the FULL version of FFVII Dirge of Cerberus Lost Episode has been preserved by @yuvi.app! The game's SD card data, which it fully relies on, remained encrypted until now. Despite being 9MB, the game contains cutscenes and voice acting.

TIL the iomega Zip Drive 'click of death' is due to value engineering out an 85 cent long lead time piece of foam that helped prevent the read/write head from crashing into the disk. It was contagious because a damaged disk inserted into another drive could damage the head on the second drive

This is my favorite retro game con, they put out the good stuff, and it's in a funky air and space museum. I'll be there lecturing, projecting slides into a giant IMAX theater showing Nintendo's abandoned attempt NES as a home lottery system. Later I will sip beer and play Barbie Fashion Designer.

Import retro games are more than just foreign exclusive titles, they’re completely different experiences like a rapid-fire light gun Famicom game found only in Japan as seen here with @frankcifaldi.bsky.social of VGHF. Check out the Retro Import showcase this week, Aug 7-9 at LI Retro. LIRetro.com

One of the aspects we pride ourselves at LI Retro is the use of hundreds of CRTs for nearly most of our retro gaming and arcade setups, ensuring the best and most authentic experience for attendees. So many CRTs in fact that it takes several days and trucks of loading (and lifting 😭😭😭) LIRetro.com
