The Something Awful Let's Play thread for Super Robot Wars Impact got to my favorite bit of dialogue in all of part 1.

I can't find a source for this off-hand, but in terms of his bona fides, I believe he's done E>J translation work professionally and he's perfectly conversant IIRC, so I'm personally not worried about AI usage, especially since it's meant to be reference material for a proper J>E translation later.

Today I learned that the horse Trombe ("tornado") in Super Robot Wars OG wasn't based on Char's horse from CCA, and was instead based on Ryo Sakazaki's horse from Art of Fighting 2, whose name is Tatsumaki (also "tornado").

I have verified this with my source. Said source is incredibly reliable: he was the translator for the first official English releases of Gundam anime in the late 90s (the movies and the sidestories). He actually knows where these came from, and the sources came from Japan! 🧵

Summoner in FF14 is relaxing because I can just push buttons and as long as I've pushed all of my buttons by the time my big button refreshes, I'm basically playing optimally. (Or so I choose to believe as a casual; I retired from high-end raiding during ARR)

I have many thoughts about it, but I believe his statement was oversimplifying. EN and JP both have tools in their linguistic toolkits that the other language doesn't. East Asian languages' plethora of 1st and 2nd-person pronouns is just one example of this among many. But... 🧵

Remember the old 2000s fansub days, when groups would race to get subs out so that they'd be the first and get the most viewers even if it meant tons of preventable errors? Or how some groups would pick a neglected series/genre, produce a slapdash, low-effort TL, then go "It's better than nothing"?

Finished Fantasy Maiden Wars Maybe the greatest fangame ever made, a true passion project. FMW is a game that loves every facet of both Touhou and SRW. As a huge fan of both, It was engaging both gameplay and writing wise from start to finish, and I loved every second of it.
