One of the more frustrating legacies of 2020 is the idea that reporting risk factors for mortality is somehow always a slight against disabled and chronically ill people, as opposed to an essential piece of information for people in that category to assess their risk before *or after* they get sick

Mark this well. A public servant who performed admirably in a crisis is being publicly persecuted, maybe prosecuted. Govt websites are being given over to propaganda. Fake medicines are being praised while lifesaving vaccines are lied about. Slanderous grifters cackle their triumph. Despicable.

The war on public health is really about shielding big money interests from democracy. See, people wanted govt to help and protect them when COVID hit—and it did with the FFCRA and CARES. And it nearly turned the economy on its head. People saw which workers were essential and saw govt work.
The persecution of Dr. Anthony Fauci—and it is persecution—is about two things: 1) Donald Trump’s ego: Fauci refused to embrace Trump’s reopening push in 2020 and hydroxychloroquine, which the president blames for his loss (a loss he still can’t accept). 2) The right’s larger war on public health.
It's not like the GOP is against Evidence Based Medicine and for true patient-centered, socially attuned care. They don't want any of it. Fauci was bad because he was for vaccines and against HCQ. But they are also against those who are medicine-skeptical but might be feeding their neighbors.
