@rikiwilchins.bsky.social 2026 Jul Advocate Trump finalizes rule cutting off Medicaid/CHIP funds for minors' GAC. It is unclear how much it was already paying but many low-income kids' med care depends on these two programs. The rule permits states to fund GAC and does not affect private insurance.

Trump’s new Medicaid rule strips care from low-income families of transgender youth

The Trump administration is cutting off federal Medicaid and CHIP funding for gender-affirming care, forcing states to decide whether to cover the cost themselves.

This is who white lesbians trans people & queers lift up as a hero fighting authoritarianism when she is in fact one of its primary vehicles, from calling the FBI on students protesting A GENOCIDE & collaborating in their prosecutions to this. This is what single issue identity politics gets you.

Obligatory reminder that Dana Nessel has still not yet apologized for completely making up a quote from Rashida Tlaib in coordination with Jake Tapper and Dana Bash in order to smear her for weeks. Jake Tapper and Dana Bash were eventually forced to concede it was not real, but Nessel has not.

"Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers may soon be outfitted with gloves that can deliver painful electric shocks intended to gain compliance from combative individuals." Susan Collins & Congressional Republicans voted to fund all of this.

An important thing to keep in mind: When drones fly their cameras are on all the time--they're often not just recording what happens when they get to a location, they're recording all the time. Police tech companies know this and are finding ways to use that incidental footage for other purposes.

Hundreds of local police departments are preparing to deploy autonomous, AI-driven surveillance drones. The drones are capable of following a single vehicle across an entire city, capturing footage through apartment windows, and generally recording daily life from the sky without being noticed.

Los Angeles and Dayton, Ohio recently suspended their Flock contracts to keep immigration authorities from reaching the camera data. Thirteen states now require audits of these systems to catch officers who abuse them. The rules are still catching up.

This is not hypothetical. A Texas officer used Flock cameras to track a woman across state lines, suspected of self-managing an abortion. Officers around the country have abused their access to track romantic partners. Some were disciplined or fired.

"I don't think judges understand the country is now blanketed with these things and they're all interconnected." That is Sid Thaxter of NACDL's Fourth Amendment Center in The New York Times on Flock's creepy license plate cameras. They read your plate everywhere you drive. And they never forget.
