To be fair, I was also deeply concerned about labor practices at the age of nine. But I was a Weird History Girlie with the entire set of Dear America books, so it was the labor practices of sweatshops in 1900s New York and the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire.
Oh yeah man, that’s cool
One of my strongest takeaways from the Bee this week is that it was a showcase for why critical thinking matters more than ever. So much of what the kids do up there isn’t rote memorization—it’s using their insane prep to solve words like puzzles (using etymology, patterns) in real time.
Great feat and congratulations but as a skill it is less necessary in the age of AI and automatic spell check. Kinda like the multiplication tables.

My curmudgeonly 13-year-old cat meeting a child for the first time is giving "grandpa who said he never wanted a cat and then becomes obsessed" energy, but in reverse
An important thing to note when discussing this topic is that NASA has a MANDATE to do outreach and education and messaging about its science. It’s a core principle for them. And as such that outreach is FUNDED. What we need is for more agencies to be rewritten to add mandates like this!
NASA and Mamdani are proving that Americans are desperate to see their money spent in ways they feel good about. This, however, is not the same thing as simply spending the money on things we would feel good about but never know happened. People need to be able to see it.

Humanity did that. Science did that. Publicly-funded research did that. Excellent universities did that. Diversity did that. International cooperation did that. Artemis II is a perfect example of what we can do at our best. Welcome home, Integrity crew!
