Astonished that this is real and not a ridiculous joke. How about, “We visited a community center in a liberal stronghold to better understand what just happened.” How about talking to a trans person heartened by the progress that was made? How about actually showing a view from the side that won?

In deep-red Texas, conservatives are trying to make sense of what just happened to their longtime Republican stronghold. We visited a men’s bible study as they gathered for the first time since the state flipped in the midterm election.

Yes!! Stop calling it ‘retribution,’ which has an automatic negative connotation. It’s Accountability we’re looking for. We want, need, and demand that people are held accountable for the harm they’ve done. Stop falling into the ‘political retribution’ trap!

Josh Marshall@joshtpm.bsky.social · 3d ago

All this talk of "getting even" or payback or whatever. It's not "getting even". It's enforcing the law. Say that. Correct that. Don't fall into that trap. There's absolutely no reason to.

These people need to understand that it’s not about “retribution.” It’s about Accountability! We need to hold the administration accountable for its actions. If the criminals & grifters want to spin it as retribution, that’s on them. An hour can’t go by without Dem Leaders saying Accountability.

Talarico: "I'm not interested in retribution. The people of Texas did not elect me last night for retribution. They elected me to deliver for them to make their lives easier and better and less stressful and that's what I plan to do, and I plan to do it even for the Texans who didn't vote for me."

A few random thoughts for the day: The day after an election should be a holiday. Whether mourning (as in '16 & '24) or celebrating (as we are this year), trying to focus on work is a thing (clearly, as I'm writing this).

I have no idea where my brother got a copy of "Watermark", the second release from #Enya. I suspect a girlfriend maybe? But my recollection is that because of him, I introduced a bunch of people to this record too. #MusicMonday

The cover art is what appears to be a painting. The background is of a grey and white wall. The right third is of Enya, in a pale blue dress with a white collar or shawl. To the left are what appear to be large red leaves. In the upper right corver, above her head, "Enya" is written in her specific font.

A - Too early to know if Lamar will be back or not B - If he’s not coming back, you never like to see guys go out due to injury C - The Bills history against backup QBs does not give me much encouragement

I’m a Cubs fan, so I know I shouldn’t be pulling for the Brewers. And I’m not paying a ton of attention anyway. But we can all agree that it’s time for the Brewers to finally win their first, right? Even if you’re just pulling for Bob Uecker’s family?

Coming into this project, I would have said that "... and Justice for All" was my least favorite #Metallica album (other than that one, which I don't have to deal with for a couple years; IYKYK). This is better than I remembered, but still their weakest so far, I think. #MusicMonday

At the top of the image, "Metallica" is printed, in their band specific font. Bottom right in the image, "... and justice for all" is written, as if it was graffitied onto a wall.
The central image is that of 'Blind Justice', the woman with a blindfold and holding a set of scales. She has a series of ropes tied to her, and is being pulled down and apart.
This seems pretty accurate these days, as justice is not blind, and the scales of justice are heavily weighted.

Who the fuck is “America Next,” and what is that bullshit commercial they just aired during the Packers / Lions game? “Liberals are the new racists.” “I can’t show my face because I’m white.” If you feel like you can’t show your face because you’re white, maybe YOU’RE the fucking problem.

The second release from #LyleLovett was "Pontiac". Personally, I think this sits with Zeppelin's II and Boston's Don't Look Back; this is a great second album! Like his first, it has everything I love about Lyle's music. Humor, tenderness, and his voice. #MusicMonday

A pale yellow border surrounds the central image. Within the upper boarder, "LYLE" is printed in large script, with "LOVETT" printed just below in much smaller script. Within the lower boarder, "PONTIAC" is written, in the same size font as the artists last name above.
The image is a black and white photo, made to look out of focus, giving it a softness. The artist leans agaist a wall, wearing a black suit and a white shirt.

"The bike lanes are causing traffic!" *Rips out bike lanes* "The damn bicyclists need to get out of the road and stop slowing me down!" Gee, it's almost like these people just hate bicyclists and want them to disappear.

I read once that, they are your best friend for just a short time, but you are their best friend for their whole life. Pet ‘em if you’ve got ‘em. 💜

Yes, absolutely. For example, if in the next few weeks, Trump sends ICE officers to polls, you know what you do? You go anyway, you throw them a middle finger, and you walk into the ballot box and don't let them intimidate you. What you don't do is despair and stay home.

I said this in a thread last night and in a thousand threads before it, but you really are doing the work of those who would destroy democracy and the rule of law when you are a doomer. You can be aware of — and vigorously oppose — the lawlessness of this administration without insisting on doom.

"Hold Your Fire" is a #Rush album that I haven't listened to very often. I didn't own it until a year or so ago, partly because I had heard it a couple times, and it never did anything for me, so I didn't bother to buy it. It still doesn't really do anything for me. #MusicMonday

A very red cover. At the top, written in a way to give it a 3d appearance of being carved into the red, "RUSH" is written. Just underneath, "Hold Your Fire". In the middle of the image are 3 red balls, again appearing to be 3D, floating just above the red, as there are 'shadows' below each of them.

Going home after some time away is good. Leaving Japan makes the going home sting a little more. Leaving Japan to go home, knowing we have no plans for our next trip to anywhere, let alone back here, is pretty depressing.

They’re live-streaming the execution of the person they think they can get away with doing that to first. It’s a test. If they can do that, they’ll expand the margins of permission.

The previous #PinkFloyd release is often regarded as a Roger Waters solo record. Similarly, the next Pink Floyd release, "A Momentary Lapse of Reason", is often thought of as more of a David Gilmour solo effort. And for me, it's only slightly more successful than "The Final Cut". #MusicMonday

A purple border around a photo, but with the photo flush to the left side. In the top border, "Pink Floyd" is written, with a stylized PF logo next to it. In the bottom border, "A Momentary Lapse of Reason", with an orange figure, like a flame, next to it.
The photo is a beach scene, with rows and rows of simple red metal beds, each with a white sheet, and a bedspread. On one of the beds towards the front, is a man sitting in shorts and a black t shirt.

Uhh … I know the defense hasn’t been good this season. But they are getting run over by what’s supposed to be a less than good Patriots team. And then the offense does nothing when the defense does stand up and gets a turn over. Less than encouraged. #BillsMafia #SportBall
