Mostly PC Engine and PC-FX reverse-engineering and development. I also contribute to MiSTer FPGA cores and a Mednafen fork. (hobby).

Somebody asked me on Reddit why people who use AI to generate Recomp projects are currently being rejected from the communities and what they can do to fix this. I might tweak parts of this to be a more general blog post at some point, but this should be of help to anyone in a similar situation.

I have started the repository to document the TRS-80 high-speed tape software B-17, with disassembly of loader, and breakdown of storage format, below. This is just the start (no tools yet, or several other planned things). github.com/dshadoff/TRS...

While reverse-engineering the TC-8 tape system for TRS-80, I've started a side quest: B-17 high-speed software-only tape I/O. This puts a 500-baud "loader" down in front of the 1700-baud "payload" program, loading the whole thing seamlessly. Pretty smart. I'm disassembling the loader now.

I reviewed all of the 80 Microcomputing magazines for advertisements for the TC-8, searching for any details about the EP-38 EPROM board, but couldn't find any. So I wondered how we had learned about the product in order to buy it. Today, I found the advertisement mailed to customers.

I love the food in Japan. There's only one meal that I miss when I visit: Chicken (or veal) parmigiana sandwiches. Unfortunately, it's hard to find beautiful pictures of them, but they're delicious and somebody should make them in Japan. (like this:) www.chefmattbasile.com/post/classic...

Classic Veal Parm Sandwich

A classic Veal Parm Sandwich is the ultimate comfort food. Made with sauce from scratch, fresh mozzarella, breaded and fried veal cutlets.

I feel like there is a big shift in gaming between the 2D era and the 3D era; the SNES/Genesis vs N64/PS1, and when people deny a console like the PS2 is "retro" I think it's because retro to them means that split there was downright hostility to 2D games for a time in the mainstream games media

I added more information to the TRS-80 TC-8 repository, including a breakdown of modulation, bit-sequence, and overall protocol for binary files compared to original TRS-80 format, and a Python script to process WAV files (currently for binary files). github.com/dshadoff/TRS...

I had to reboot one of my Windows computers just now. What an interesting way to say, "I don't like the fact that you chose a different default browser, so I'm going to forcefully override because I wrote the bleeding Operating System."

There is a law in Ontario (and beyond) since 2007 stating that gift card balances cannot expire. However, it seems that some companies may "deactivate" cards after periods without use, and make it basically impossible to locate a person to reactivate/reissue it.

TC-8 news: Reading 45-year-old TC-8 cassette files, I learned enough about the encoding format (and protocol) to write a Python program to read back the data of a machine-language program (via .WAV file) ! Now to test other files, try other file types, and write it all up.

There's a lot of commentary today about the discontinuation of "hard" media for games and the retirement of certain "purchased" movies from accounts on services. I never really bought into the "digital purchase" ecosystem except when I could get local downloads that don't need network connections.

I’ve got 4 more of these PCFX USB PD power supplies if anyone is interested! Not planning to list on kofi at this time, so please DM if interested. Asking $45 plus postage
