Science and maths, finance, politics, and I will like/share art until my fingers fall off. Sometimes obsess about weird bits of regulation. Would you like some solar panels? I know a guy. Opinions my own etc.
Some might dismiss this as being the BBC covering the soap opera of US politics, but no, this is the early stages of the British press smelling blood. The coverage of things that will hurt Trump in the eyes of his voters will ratchet until he folds. Suing the Beeb was a mistake.
Some of Doge's $110bn saving reports are wrong or lack evidence, US watchdog finds
Yeaaaaaah, it can get a little bit like that sometimes.

Steve's daily videos on what the Russian newspapers are worrying about are really good. I would like a Steve (funded by the Beeb World Service) for more countries. And yes, we should better fund the World Service!
In today’s #ReadingRussia: a look at the language Moscow uses to describe the war on Ukraine. Plus, more on the consequences of Ukrainian drone attacks. And a Hollywood blockbuster (unofficially) hits Russian cinema screens.
It’s the 88th anniversary today of this immensely enjoyable headline 🧵
This is the ideal UI. You may not like it, but this is what peak performance looks like. (That defendant summary icon!!!!!!!)
This is not a joke. This is a screenshot of the actual case management software used by Massachusetts' 11 District Attorneys. Must-read work here by @nasser.wiki nasser.blog/dial-up-just...
I wonder where this latest expulsion of nonsense has come from. Let me just check in on the SpaceX share price...

There need to be some very lengthy prison sentences for all involved. It does not take an experiment to work out that exposing large numbers of people to pro-suicide content results in suicides.
New @bloomberglaw.com article by Olivia Carville - TikTok experimented on users, putting 10% (about 15M people) in a "filter bubble" exposing them to repetitive content that the algorithm thought they wanted, but was toxic. If you want to know why these cases are going to be massive...
Sean Wiswesser, former CIA officer: Countries like Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan are helping Russians avoid sanctions and get away with the war in Ukraine. Meanwhile, they’re being very duplicitous, saying, "No, no, we want to be more closely integrated with EU and West." Nonsense. Then act like it.
Surely the same law/right which protects one charity's right to be anti-rights also protects another charity's right to (truthfully) describe them as such? And if there is a discrepancy in the law as it applies to those 2 positions, perhaps we ought to modify said law?
I don’t think the Charity Commission would let Amnesty International UK get away with describing any other charity organised around beliefs which are protected in English law as “anti-rights”, nor should it do so.
This sounds like Ukraine making a pitch to join NATO. "We are not desperate to join, you are desperate for us to join". Fair play.
🇺🇦👀 Ukraine is significantly ahead of NATO, which is preparing for the old war, — Zaluzhnyi "It is impossible to join, with the level of development that AFU has, an organization that possesses the doctrines of WW2... 1/2
This is interesting for the simple fact that there could be a lot of different interests who might want to do this. Place your bets: 1 - standard criminals 2 - North Korea! 3 - Russians! 4 - Intel agency of [EU country] 5 - Americans! 6 - China! 7 - The perfidious Brits! 8 - [AI company]!

This headline should say "Farage threatens to waste enormous amounts of money to use the Royal Navy to violate both the sovereign territory of a NATO ally and British law" because that is what he's 'threatening'. Given the situation he's in, I suppose we should expect these hail Mary tactics.

It strikes me that many people have an odd view of how utility or cost-benefit calculations should be done when it comes to policy. In e.g. business, it can be done (mostly) using a linear-value, directly comparable unit of measurement. Money. In policy though it also depends how you assign value.
There's no pleasing some people. One minute they are complaining about young people not working, the next slamming entrepreneurial spirit 😁

Someone should (not-so) gently point out to US leadership that if you take everything from someone and leave them nothing but spite, they will respond in the most spiteful way they can manage.
US and Israel are planning what would be one of the harshest bombing campaigns to date against energy infrastructure targets in Iran, with strikes possible throughout the weekend.
