My wife had long covid and, although she's happily fully recovered, she was essentially bedbound for two years. Seeing journalists say stuff like this makes me viscerally, profoundly angry in a way that few other things manage.

I've never seen a more incredible series of own goals than the last fifteen years of UK higher education policy. If the stupidity of the decade-long annual funding freeze/real-terms cuts had been properly communicated I think people would be rightly horrified.

And the dangerous financial situation they have allowed to fester, or indeed worsened, in one of Britain’s leading sectors.

Gursky's spectral tarsiers (Tarsius spectrumgurskyae). Native to Sulawesi. Nocturnal. Just before dawn, they sing territorial duets, then return to their sleep sites in dense vegetation or tree cavities. Threatened by habitat loss, agricultural pesticides, and predation by cats and dogs. Vulnerable.
Don't think I've ever seen a better demonstration of marginal utility. I imagine most people here are making straightforwardly the right choice.

Though the dynamics of collective intelligence e.g., in online chess communities often have some interesting inefficiencies. E.g. Advanced players will offer exit-solutions to the wrong wilderness traps. Navigating environments of social information can be it's own complex search space.
