If you like history and accessible history, highly encourage picking up @drlindseyfitz.bsky.social’s new book (and backlog). Publishers really pay attention to pre-orders and it’s super important for authors.
I seem to be reaching fewer and fewer people on social media thanks to AI slop and algorithms, so I did the one thing I dread more than a deadline: got on camera. My new book SLEUTH-HOUND is up for pre-order now. It would mean the world if you grabbed a copy👇 Preorder: linktr.ee/drlindseyfitzharris
You know the country is in a good spot when nearly half the country does not trust the FDA to manage a food borne outbreak (most recent polling - 47% do not trust them to manage an outbreak).
At our local outdoor music venue, I’ve discovered I can’t bring ice cubes in our water bottles (with no water like I can at local giant music festivals) because they can be used as projectiles… but I can bring a gallon ziplock bag of food in, without restrictions on kind of food. I’m perplexed.
Let’s normalize giving people 10-15 min after they logged in before bombarding them. There’s a lot of things I’d like changed and normalized but this one feels almost doable. Let people have their coffee first folks.
This should be a much bigger story. www.politico.com/news/2026/07...

I’ve never understood this level of fear and deference to awful people. Is it uncomfortable to stand up for yourself? Yes. But if someone is demeaning and abusive, gtfo of there. This grin and bear it attitude is so weak. If everyone just stood up in solidarity, bullies have no power.
This is why shit will never change in this country. No one, absolutely no one should've been at that shameful ridiculous Correspondence Dinner, or whatever the fuck it was, but there they were looking like shit eating desperates. Lawd
Spent a good chunk of my life studying sociology before having to give the academia career track up. Sociology has so much to teach us and 100% it makes people uncomfortable because if you’re embracing authoritarianism… you don’t want your people educated and asking questions based on fact.
Co-signing here and I wish just *one* of these articles would point out the history of authoritarian regimes attacking sociology specifically because it makes authoritarians uncomfortable.
Not sure what kind of omen or portent this is, but the vet office told us that all the new kittens they’re getting in are orange kittens. Idk what to feel about a bumper crop of orange kittens. If you’ve ever had an orange cat… you know.
Fires don’t respect borders. It’s been awful to see how many are talking about Canada. Nobody wants to discuss how our current policies are leading to more frequent and larger fires.
Canada has been an integral partner in fighting the BWCA wildfires and ensuring the safety of Minnesotans up North. In return, Trump has treated them terribly. Today, I sat face-to-face with Trump’s hand-picked Forest Service Chief and said to Canada what the admin refuses to: thank you.

Psst... are you in the UK and want to get your hands on a copy of SLEUTH-HOUND? Starting today, you can get 25% off at @waterstones.bsky.social! It's got a bit of everything: Victorian forensics, Jack the Ripper, and even a ballistics expert named Dr. Watson: shorturl.at/2X1qQ
If you are interested in Russia’s electoral backing of Trump, read David Shimer’s book or Kathleen Hall Jamieson’s book or my "Road to Unfreedom." The people who want our country to break have always wanted this guy to be president.
I would have no problem going back to school for many of the industries suffering from shortages… but I would need education paid for, basically my current wage while in school and insurance. Those shortages are not getting filled without major overhaul.
Jimothy’s keeping me going this week tbh.
It's fun* having both deep, terrifying anxiety abt your personal life to pair with the deep abiding feeling of dread & despair about the world at large. *genuinely awful. I wish it on no one. Thank goodness for people positing pics of their pets, flowers and food & for @trungles.com reading P&P
Because of course the investors should know before the public who is consuming the food.
SEC filings show Taco Bell—and other restaurants—knew cyclospora posed a risk to their businesses and the public.
Please blow up the public comment (included below): BREAKING NEWS (7/15) — The administration wants to destroy Chaco Canyon without consulting Tribal Nations. It’s an irreplaceable historic & cultural site with 4,700 archeological sites that could be lost to the bulldozers of oil & gas development
It was really eerie watching the smoke roll in. One minute blue skies, less than 30 minutes later - completely blanketed with smoke.

if you are having “what the hell do i eat?” anxiety, it feels like a great time to talk about the benefits of commercially frozen produce. it’s flash frozen at the height of freshness, and scientists say that the commercial washing and freezing process dramatically reduces risk.
We’re all going to get diarrhea I guess.
We’ve read to our kiddo nightly from the very night we brought him home. He now reaches for books to take on car rides and chooses to read just for fun outside of reading for bed. It’s so cool to see.
The trick to getting kids reading again is the same as it ever was: cram every available surface of your home with books, limit their access to brain-destroying technology, wait for them to get bored and watch them flourish both spiritually and intellectually.
It’s getting harder to avoid but I’m practically at the point of if a company is using AI for customer service I will find an alternative. I have never had an AI agent be helpful and actually answer what I was asking. If they have provided an answer it’s been inaccurate. They’re useless.
If anyone I know is struggling to find fresh fruits and veggies, please let me know and I can share what I have. Poverty is not a failure on the individual’s part and nobody should be going hungry. I saw this too, and I’m happy that person has that resource. Society has allowed people to go hungry.
On my Facebook stream today, I saw a woman, let me refreeze that, she didn't show her a face, but it was a dinner plate with healthy food on it. She posted above it a thank you to a food bank for giving her the items to make a decent meal. Seriously, think about that.... Poverty is widening
The English gave us Puritans, Norway gave us Haaland. You decide lol.
Tofu steak from Musashi in Dublin. Maybe one day I will be back to Dublin… but I’ve tried so many Japanese restaurants and tried to cook it myself and nothing comes close.
What’s a meal that haunts you because you can never have it again? Mine is mango rundown tofu, from Jamerica in Madison. I’ve tried unsuccessfully to recreate it form other recipes and nothing has ever come close. And if you search for it, you find tons of posts from other people who also miss it.
I saw my first on my surprise milkweed in the front yard tonight, and saw my first lightning bug last night. Must be doing something right.
Don’t mind me, I’ll just be over here getting emotional because I saw the first monarch of the year.
Officials are urging Minnesotans to stay inside and stay safe during dangerously hot conditions. Many cities around the state have opened cooling centers to help people find relief.

Most people think Sherlock Holmes began at 221B Baker Street. But Holmes began somewhere far stranger: in a Victorian hospital ward in Edinburgh, where surgeon Joe Bell taught students to read a body like a crime scene.🧵 Here's the US 🇺🇸 trailer for SLEUTH-HOUND. Preorder: linktr.ee/drlindseyfit...
