I think some people look a design, or art trends a tech tree like oh we figured it out back then, so now we have that, and all this new knowledge too, so clearly we're better off! But those old skills decay if they're not supported. We've lost some skills to gain others.

I saw a recent Naomi Klein interview where she was also noting Fascism's internationalism vs Socialism's localism, but this was always Fascism's nature. Japan's Meiji government sent guys out to Europe and a handful of them came back with ideas from the Italian and German Fascists.

this is also conceptually funny because like the only reason to play SNES Doom is to see the impressive feat of getting a cutting edge PC game running on hardware that just barely handles Wolfenstein 3D making it HD 60FPS with KB+M just means you're playing someone's Doom clone instead of real Doom
