An Ornate Tailed Digger #wasp (Cerceris rybyensis) on the Sea Holly. This is a new observation in the garden for me. Whilst it preys on solitary bees it's a very welcome visitor. #wildlifefrommywindow #invertebrates #gardenwildlife

The forewings are mainly brown, but with an iridescent blue sheen, and orangy brown splodges at the perimeter. The very edge has a fine black line around it and then a white feathery fringe.

A light blue globe like flower on a light blue and green stem. The base of the flower has four small leaves sticking out radially, like a broken ruff. The flower head has lots of little blue stamen stikcing out from it. In between these, in the top left corner there are two long brown segmented antennae sticking up, and at the bottom of these is a bee, facing the camera. Only its left eye is fully visible, and the edge of its thorax.

Like last year I have found one single Toadflax Brocade #moth caterpillar on all the Toadflax in the garden. Perhaps I'm just rubbish at spotting them when they're smaller & more numerous?! Or maybe the wasps & other predators are just very efficient! #wildlifefrommywindow #invertebrates #teammoth

I was only saying Monday that I was 😞 not to have seen a Common Blue #butterfly yet this year. Then, in the heat & wind, I saw one this PM. Even better, she was laying eggs on the Birds Foot Trefoil! It's what I hoped for when I planted it last year, so pleased! #wildlifefrommywindow #invertebrates

The body is fluffy and blue, with black and white stripes on the antennae. The wings are folded up, showing their brown underside, with dark spots with white borders, dotted on them, and then orangy brown little oblongs at the trailing end of the wing, bordered by a white band. Lesser Spearwort is a species of buttercup which is very common on Dartmoor. As it likes to grow in ponds, it can take patience to find a spot where the ground is dry enough to get a good view, but it's very easy to see from a slightly greater distance. #WildflowerHour #WetlandPlants
