When we were at Grandma's house, she sort of brought up about wanting another dog and I mentioned all the dogs I found on the adoption website and told her I'd send them her way and I have done that.

And it's okay if you don't have the "right" automatic internal response! You can start with doing the right thing, even when you don't automatically feel it.
I'm not saying this to brag about how I'm such a good person and so successful at decency. I'm saying this to show that being a decent person doesn't always come easy or instinctively. And sometimes you have to walk away and not say the first thing that comes to mind.
Also I've picked up the toys now and Esme is looking at me extremely betrayed and like she's about to burst into tears.

UBI is a great idea but if it doesn't recognize that we don't all get the same 24 hours or have the same expenses, then it risks being used as cover to cut the few programs we have that do recognize it, thus actually increasing some forms of inequality even as it does good things like raising the /
"But Falco," you may say, "so many of those are things that everyone needs." Well yeah, but there's A: far more disabled people than society wants to admit, and B: a bit of difference between it being PLEASANT to have, and NECESSARY for long term wellbeing.
CripTax covers SO many angles. Shower stools. More soap and TP because you work from home. More pads for people with endometriosis or PCOS. Bus fare and the TIME it takes when you don't drive. OTC meds. Even having to replace things more often because you've got the constanr dropsies.

thread. I remember being really thrown off when I found out some countries give you extra paid time off (4 hours every 2 weeks I think, but I may be misremembering) each month if you have a condition like celiac that means you spend at least that much more time shopping/reading labels/etc

Yeah, there's also a lot of things that ppl think Medicaid/Medicare covers that they don't that add added expense. OTC supplements that might be necessary, special diets, certain aides, etc. Ntm the cost of making your environment accessible. There's a lot of invisible expense.

i'm currently on 5 meds. i have already dialed back my doctor visits to the absolute lowest frequency it is legally allowed. my insurance refuses to cover _any_ of it, so i currently spend 900 BRL monthly ONLY on meds and med-relevant appts lol

And that's not even accounting for Disabled people who have medical devices at home that require a lot of electricity to power.
Eb@ebthen.bsky.social · 20h agoA kind of Crip Tax I realized several years ago is the cost of electricity when you're home all day every day. My electric company used to send me documents comparing my energy usage/costs to nearby "homes like mine" and indicating I used much more. Which, yeah, I'm home all day every day.
