EcoFuture

EcoFuture is an MWK-funded project @unituebingen.bsky.social to close local nutrient cycles by developing a sustainable, biochar-based fertilizer

And EcoFuture @unituebingen.bsky.social is on board - how great 😀. Sequestering CO2 in biochar has potential positive feedbacks on futher C binding in soils. This technique remains a win-win: for our climate and for farmers and sustainable food production. Thanks for selecting us amongst the 99 💪.

#klimaschutz #forschung #wissenschaft mwk.baden-wuerttemberg.de/de/service/p...

♻️ At #Kastanienhof, tree prunings are transformed into biochar. The heat from pyrolysis is reused for biomass drying and greenhouse heating, while the biochar becomes part of our biostimulating fertilizer #EcoFuture and returns to the field to improve soil health and store carbon.

🌻 Building better solutions for organic farming starts in the lab 🧪 We’re developing and testing EcoFuture UT #KAP4, a multi-component biostimulant fertilizer for #OrganicFarming, to find the combinations that work best before scaling up to real farm conditions 🌾

What fun to attend: The #TERRA FutureLab distributed its first biochar product from the #Kastanienhof. Bags were faster gone than the Visitors registered @unituebingen.bsky.social: what a success. This clearly shows that interest & demand for nature based solutions is out there: let's get started 💪

Day two of our amazing #TERRA 🌎 Kick-Off, meeting old and new friends and colleagues for a second day in a row.

Indeed, we are full of motivation: we look much forward to the collaboration with the #TERRA FutureLab - exploiting the perspectives of #biochar application beyond organic #agriculture. Thanks @mwk-bw.bsky.social for that great opportunity & @unituebingen.bsky.social for the living lab #Kastanienhof

🌱 Exciting news – @eco-future.bsky.social launched yesterday, April 1! Our #TERRA Future Lab is part of an effort to develope EcoFuture KAP4, a sustainable biochar-based fertilizer that closes local nutrient cycles for organic farming – funded by the @mwk-bw.bsky.social MWK Baden-Württemberg.🚜

What makes biochar a good carrier for microbes and nutrients? Next week IBI Executive Director Luisa Marín will present on this exact topic! Register for the 19 February webinar 👉https://www.eventbrite.pt/e/webinar-cycle-2-biochar-futures-turning-heat-into-carbon-allies-tickets-1980360249817

#EcoFuture, an MWK-funded project headed by @michaeladippold.bsky.social of @unituebingen.bsky.social goes online on BlueSky We (Michael Weiß - Steinbeis Forschungszentrum, Christian Poll @unihohenheim.bsky.social, the Kastanienhof AIS & the @terra-cluster.org FutureLab) now start our joint journey

Ha - this is pretty similar to EcoFuture's motivation: fruit production in 🇩🇪 produces pruning material and old, long grass - both ideal substrates for long-term #carbon sequestration ( #CDR ). Amended with a nutrient source, we follow the same approach returning pyrolyzed organic matter to soils 😀.

Can agricultural waste clean our water? This study shows that biochar made from corn cobs can remove up to 98% of micro/nanoplastics and ~64% of ammonia from water, with no detectable PAH release and good reusability. A low-cost, sustainable filter for emerging contaminants. doi.org/10.1007/s427...
