I just have zero patience for a public intellectual IN THIS DECADE, pretending that environmental policy isn’t going to involve politics. Look around. Pay any attention at all. Yes, the 60-second ads will lack the nuance of a white paper. Industry ignores your white papers though.

Penelope had 108 suitors to whom she had to show a queen's hospitality According to the USDA, the monthly cost for a man aged 20-50 on a liberal food plan is $484.60 The suitors stayed at Odysseus's house for 3 years By the time he killed them, Odysseus had spent $1.8 million feeding them

AlphaFold was always bait-and-switch; now Google confirms it. A hyper-narrow bioinformatrics model with actual science bolted on whose guesses can be experimentally checked was never a licence for socially-applied slop at scale, but it's done its job. Effort transferred to LLMs.

Question for the masses... I'm starting as an independent consultant and going thru my contacts who might want to hire or refer me. Would you rather be approached: 1) For a friendly catch-up, not mentioning consulting initially? 2) Learning up front that I'm actively seeking opportunities?

My baby cousin is serving in the National Guard in DC for several months now. Doesn't make it any less dumb why they are here. Why does the Columbia Heights Farmers Market need National Guard?

I've been biking more, now that I'm not currently working. Unfortunately, two days ago was almost hit by an e-scooter (their fault) and yesterday a car (traffic light out, technically also their fault).

So I am becoming an independent consultant which means I have to face my fears, aka getting better at making slides. Looking for recommendations of free or low-cost trainings on how to get better! I'm also up for other programs but I want to minimize my use of AI. Pic for attention 🤗

Someone said to me, "I'm sorry but I got your book from a library." Nobody should ever apologise for that. You read my book! That's brilliant! I grew up hanging out in libraries and the idea of a world without them fills me with dread. Without libraries, authors, like readers, will only suffer.

You guys aren't going to believe this, but ... it turns out the oil & gas industry knew that they were poisoning people (in this case, with methane) for years, and they hid it & did nothing to mitigate the harm. No, really, it's true! Incredible investigative work here from @rebleber.bsky.social:

Oil Firms Knew for Decades of Methane’s Danger to Planet, Documents Suggest

The companies knew they were releasing more of the greenhouse gas than they publicly reported, according to industry files cited by the Center for Climate Integrity, an activist organization.

Hey BlueSky, I'm planning to stop by NY Climate Week in September but it's my first one! Would appreciate any recommendations for panels, events, networking, and navigating all three! Specifically interested in agri, methane, and super pollutants.
