Talk about bike infrastructure, and someone inevitably assumes the goal is to replace every car trip with a cycle. Nothing could be further from the truth. The goal is choice. Most people don’t want to use the same vehicle for every journey, just as they don’t use the same shoes for every occasion.🧵

Instead of forming a massive alliance against this absurd situation, pedestrians are pitted against cyclists, cyclists against scooter riders, ... Every day I become more disillusioned by just how deeply ingrained the “carbrain” is in all of us, even those of us without cars.

I'm a fan of Doug Gordon's War on Cars work. His response to my re-posting this with comments was to block me. It's his right to do so, but god forbid we bring science into subject as important as climate change. Again, I suggest that folks read the science compendium at soil4climate.org

Doug Gordon posted an article discussion how Amsterdam has banned ads for fossil fuel companies and meat. It was reposted with the quote: "Meat is not the problem we've been told. That whole idea goes back to a 2006 UNFAO report that was retracted due to very faulty calculations and comparisons. It's not the cow, it's the how. Meat is not the problem we've been told. The whole idea that it is goes back to a 2006 UNFAO report that was retracted due to very faulty calculations and comparisons. It's not the cow, it's the how. Read Soil4Climate's science compendium: soil4climate.org

Is it time for the federal gov't to get out of the business of funding new lane miles? Considering we have been in diminishing returns with highway expansions for at least 3 decades, the answer is becoming obvious. When you can't maintain what you have, and people (cont'd...)

Anyone old enough to remember 9/11 knows many thousands of Americans got stranded when the aviation system shut down and we ran out of rental cars. "Whaddya mean there is no train to Columbus?!?!?" was overheard at Chicago Union Station. A robust rail system would've kept America moving.

Transportation and land use are closely linked. This is part of Silicon Valley (I took this pic a few days ago). Designing everything around the car + all that exclusive R1 zoning is why there is a housing shortage here. It's also why virtually all of the cities (cont'd)
