The front page of this morning’s Spokesman-Review, Aug. 2, 2026, the day after one of the worst wildfires in Washington state history. More than 600 structures, mostly homes, have been lost in the #OldTrailsFire. Read local news.

Yikes, the amount of tanker aircraft assisting with the fire in Spokane is incredible - visible are 5 Canadair Scoopers and Super Scoopers, a Boeing 737, a Dehavilland tanker, at least three Sikorsky helicopters. There has also been a DC-10 tanker and now a DC-9 tanker. Just amazing coordination.

Spokane is having a VERY bad day. Every time I check, the situation is worse; multiple fires are affecting the city. I don't want to speculate, but I see little hope homes haven't been lost. If you're in a GO NOW zone, GET THE HELL OUT If you're are NEAR a GO NOW area, GET THE HELL OUT #WAfire

Holy crap. Level 3 (GO NOW!) zone now includes urban Spokane, south of Francis to Wellesley. Level 2 (GET SET!) zone now extends east of Division. Not to be alarmist, but at this rate, it’s not inconceivable that the Old Trails Fire merges with the Fairview Fire.
