Tonight we read the heartrending words of those who lost Israeli loved ones on Oct 7th — and Palestinian loved ones in the three years since. We said kaddish for all of them. We refused to compromise on anyone’s humanity. No amount of shouting stopped us. May their memory be for a blessing.

It is time for my Jewish brethren to internalize that we and our Palestinian kindred are cursed¹ to intertwinedness. Every victory in the last century is the other's tragedy and every tragedy more so. It is *impossible* to extricate the two, and for the near future the reaction to October 7th...

"three quarters of it is not about us" much more than three quarters of the consequences of October 7th is not about us, this is incredibly generous

- Called wherever I was going and asked for directions - Maps in the car - Invitations to events (Bar Mitzvahs, weddings) always had a driving directions insert that you did NOT want to forget on the way out of the house - Mapping websites came before car GPS units, so printouts

What was driving like before GPS? Did you just wing it? Did you only go places you knew how to get to? Were you just better at remembering steps to get somewhere?

I just feel like so much of how people talk about consequences for rapists just reveals the poverty of imagination and lack of understanding of how ill-equipped the criminal justice system is to handle something like rape

I don't wish sexual assault or IPV or any form of abuse on anyone, the same way I don't wish a broken leg or cancer or mental illness on anyone, but I also don't think that people who live with any of these realities are somehow permanently ruined the way people talk about SA/DV survivors.

I disagree with this assertion - if someone understands the definition of Zionism to be the one adopted by the ADL and UJA, which means broadly supporting any actions Israel takes in the name of "security", then it is reasonable to still want a Jewish/democratic state while rejecting the label.

i like that the brand is failing enough that only 37% of USA Jews polled self label as zionist but that 90% that wants a Jewish state on liberal parameters -- they are zionists too the important point i think is that there is signifucant daylight between Jewish and zionist identities

I could write a long thread on why and how Zionism was by many seen as an emancipatory movement in the early 20th century (and the contradictions involved) or on (marginalised) versions of Zionism that pursued Jewish national expression from an egalitarian position. But this seems esoteric to me.

You guys want to hear a short but adorable story that happened right in front of me at the baggage claim in NYC yesterday? I wasn't part of it and there are bits I didn't catch but holy crap, I can't stop thinking about it.

When my father was faculty at Cornell he was stopped by the police chief in the street & asked who he was & where he was going. When he balked at the fact that no one but him, an Arab man, was being asked, the chief said “I’m just protecting students” Same guy failed to investigate 7 rapists.

Going to piss off everyone I do not believe any ethnostate of any kind should exist. AND Much of the driving motivation behind this specific motion is in fact rooted in antisemitism. Lots of the people involved here are not acting in good faith. The horrible situation will be damaging to Greens.

withholding public attention, fame, and acclaim, things many people live happily without every day, should not be discussed in the same terms as violent state sponsored retribution. doing so puts survivors of sexual violence in an impossible position.
