"Today, when I look at the empty teaching podium in the hall, I realize that Israel did not just kill a geography teacher, but assassinated a “compass” that was guiding us toward our homeland. He taught us how to see in geography a face of truth."

At the end of the term I asked my college creative wriing students to submit anonymous thoughts on AI. No real surprises: Mood ranges from resignation to despair, capitulation from embittered erosion of standards to total, feelings of betrayal from deep to furious. 1/

“Use AI to brainstorm but not to write.” “Use AI to help you outline but not to write.” These are commonly proposed as “ethical” ways for undergrad students to use AI, but I’m sorry, brainstorming & outlining are just as integral to writing as the actual construction of sentences.

BREAKING: Mayor Ken Sim's ABC majority voted not to reduce speed limits on major roads, despite 93% of all road fatalities in Vancouver happening on arterials. This was one of the most important Near-Term Actions in the entire plan, because roads will never be safe until people drive at safe speeds.

Graphic that reads "BREAKING NEWS: Mayor Ken Sim's ABC rejects safer speeds on the most dangerous roads"

I am honoured, humbled, & so very grateful. Much love & gratitude to @ejmccann.bsky.social, @murmz.bsky.social, & Drs. McAllister & Pratt for their generosity & ongoing mentorship, & to the library workers who agreed to be part of this project. May we continue to learn from your brilliant work! ❤️
