Every year in Metro Vancouver, car crashes kill 100 people. We can get to zero by demanding governments design transportation systems to put safety first. http://linkin.bio/visionzeroyvr

"The impact of being hit by an e-scooter could certainly result in life-altering injuries or death, especially for seniors. But the solution is not to ban e-scooters, or to criminalize youth for being youth." Great letter with a lot of fantastic insights! www.nsnews.com/opinion/opin...

Opinion: Cars are the biggest threat on the road, not kids on e-scooters

All the outrage we feel about teens weaving on e-bikes and scooters would be better spent figuring out how to keep massive motorized vehicles away from all other road users

In 2023, Ken Sim & ABC cancelled plans for Broadway active transport lanes because of the $10M price tag, saying we need to spend resources in other areas. So why are they now considering spending $20M rebuilding 2 blocks of 10th Ave, a bikeway Sim once called "perfect"? Read more:

Or: why spend $10 million building 8km of protected bike lanes on a high street when you can spend $20 million replacing a couple blocks of an existing bike lane that you once called “perfect…

One week into the Broadway closure around Cambie, and the cycling & pedestrian experience is already much better than the Main St closure, for 2 main reasons: 1) this area already had a lot of good design elements, and 2) staff were much more proactive. Still a few trouble spots. More here:

Broadway Closure Week 1 Recap: Concrete Works?!

Just over a week into this new road closure, it seems to be going better than the closure at Broadway and Main. We credit that first and foremost to the existing infrastructure in the area of Broad…

Something you notice when you read a lot of stories about traffic violence is how often a witness will talk about the fact that a particular road has seen a lot of crashes or speeding. We know some streets are particularly dangerous and yet no action is taken. That's why these are not accidents.

Love that the 7-11 worker in the video who witnesses these crashes all the time, knows that the problem is the street design. If only our local leaders and city staff GAF.

Thank you all for acknowledging the vulnerability of pedestrians! My mom is a full time pedestrian in Maple Ridge which seems a sea of aggressive cars! She has had to adopt lots of protective strategies (only crossing at safe crosswalks, wearing bright clothes, waving her arms at drivers, etc)

“Speed kills. Signage and posted regulations can keep honest people honest. But physical traffic calming, meaning designing streets that are relatively narrow and cannot be driven comfortably fast … those are the things that are moving the needle.” www.governing.com/infrastructu...

I went to check out the 6-month Broadway closure that started today. Watch how this bus never has to stop! It's coordinated. They have done some truly incredible things with transit priority (for just a 6-month period!) and I want to see that implemented (permanently!) all over the region.

The FIRST DAY of Granville Street’s 7-week extended PEDESTRIAN ZONE was a BIG success, especially with kids! Free cotton candy and balloon creatures helped! All sorts of people were out strolling, people-watching, and checking out stores. TOMORROW free cotton candy & balloons again, & free flowers!

Granville Street in downtown Vancouver filled with people today.Hundreds of kids and adults alike enjoyed the free cotton candy. It will be back tomorrow from 11-3.Kids also loved the free balloon creatures and objects, which will also be back tomorrow from 1-3.Art stations for kids and adults alike, and the popular soccer games of course.

Are you one of the 69% of Vancouver residents (63% Metro) who wanted Granville Street to STAY a pedestrian zone & people-place after the #WorldCup ends? WEEK ONE of the 7-week extension starts TOMORROW, with emphasis on day-time & families. JUST BEING ON THE STREET SUPPORTS ITS SUCCESS! Come see!

Important news — the patio TVs allowed on Granville Street for #WorldCup games will stay for the 7-week pedestrian street extension. Whitecaps MLS & Vancouver Rise games? Bluejays games? Vancouver Canadians baseball too? ANY team, all summer. Get your jersey on and “Watch the Game on Granville.”

Can Vancouver’s pedestrianized Granville Street have a vibrant day-life and night-life AFTER our hosting of local #WorldCup games has ended? On a game-day, absolutely! Our last local match was a week ago, but today’s/tonight’s crowds were New Orleans levels! Our new “centre ice” for EVERY sport?

So this isn't good. ABC (+Fry and Bligh) introduced an amendment to the Vancouver General Hospital campus report to order staff to study demolishing the 10th Avenue bike lane in front of VGH and rebuilding it on the north side. They say it's to reduce conflict, but the data says otherwise.

FURTHER THAT Council direct staff to continue discussions with VGH regarding options to mitigate pedestrian/cyclist/emergency vehicle conflicts within the VGH campus, including consideration for a bi-directional bike lane on the north side of West 10th Avenue and one way vehicle traffic.Voting screen with ABC, Fry and Bligh in favour, Maloney against, Orr abstaining

Vancouver's Capital Plan draft is out, and we analyzed it (yup, all 232 pages) for road safety improvements so you don't have to! On the whole, it maintains the status quo - a state which leaves about a dozen Vancouverites dead and thousands more injured each year. It's not enough.

The Status Quo is Not Enough

Vancouver’s draft 2027-30 Capital Plan is out, and despite a clear desire for action on road safety the plan is…completely status quo.
