I work at a public library. People who want to use AI seem to have no trouble doing so. People who don't want to use AI have a harder time. I crowdsourced and then finalized this document "How to disable or avoid intrusive AI" and then gave it a short URL: notoai.org Please pass along if it's useful

Libraries are still essential in the digital age. Some librarians are even helping patrons ditch AI and get off Big Tech. This week Hannah Cyrus and @flexlibris.bsky.social join @parismarx.com to discuss how libraries address people’s concerns about tech. Full ep: techwontsave.us/episode/338_...

It's okay to use citation software. It's okay not to. Using citation software isn't even a little bit like using Gen AI to write, read, or summarize (citation software is deterministic: same inputs, same outputs). These are actually easy things to know and understand and avoid Discourse about.
I am honoured, humbled, & so very grateful. Much love & gratitude to @ejmccann.bsky.social, @murmz.bsky.social, & Drs. McAllister & Pratt for their generosity & ongoing mentorship, & to the library workers who agreed to be part of this project. May we continue to learn from your brilliant work! ❤️

Generative AI is antithetical to the core values of librarianship and not grappling with that is a big issue, not just for librarians, but for anyone in the education field.

Not proud to admit this, but we spent a bunch of time looking for "The Seasons in Quincy: Four Portraits of John Berger" on various streaming sites (no luck) before checking the public library, and violà! Don't be like me. Check your public library catalogue first. 🫣
Last book of 2025: Ocean Vuong's "Emperor of Gladness." Stunning, devastating, hopeful, unsentimental, wise. I loved everything about it.
"This promise of an AI future, is really just a collective anxiety that wealthy people have about how well they're gonna be able to control us in the future." - @tressiemcphd.bsky.social with an absolute mic drop moment about AI bullshit. Incredible words. Listen to all of it!

TIL that the ONLY way to ship something to the US is to download a 3rd party app, create an account & give them all your info. Don't have a smart phone/are not a semi-advanced user? "You can ask a neighbour to help." The post office should be for everyone & give a sh*t about your data. Infuriating.
