New paper out! 🦈🥞📡 Using 4 years of acoustic tracking on 179 undulate skates (Raja undulata), we show that fine-scale movement traits (activity + space use) vary consistently among individuals but don’t align with broader philopatry patterns.👀 Full paper 👉 onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/...

Individual Variation in Philopatry Is Unrelated to Activity and Space Use in the Undulate Skate Raja undulata

Consistent individual variation in fine-scale movement traits is unrelated to movements occurring at larger spatio-temporal scales in undulate skates (Raja undulata).

#BELAS News❗❗ A new species joins the crew. Yesterday we tagged our first blue shark in the wild! 🦈 That makes it species number 8 in the “blue” waters of Galicia! 🌊🟢 Still chasing one more elusive species… but we’re out there, ready! 🦈🔍🤿 Tagging season never stops!! 💪 youtu.be/jmmILoVI9_c

Nice feature of the incredible work done by Jorge Urcera on octopus arm regeneration featured in @science.org! 🐙🐙 A bifurcated limb showing signs of autonomous behaviour. Another example of octopus complexity. #Cephalopods #Octopus @csic.es www.science.org/content/arti...

This octopus grew a ninth arm—which soon developed a mind of its own

Study highlights just how flexible cephalopod’s bodies are after injury and during recovery

I will forever be haunted by this footage. Trawling has only been filmed underwater a few times in documentary history, and never with such clarity. What’s so heart-rending about these shots is watching how the animals don’t just get swept up — they swim for their lives. 🌎🦑🧪
