He/Him Designer & cinematic illustrator. ‘Unelectable’ is my Industrial music project. At this point in my life, I’m pretty rabidly anti-capitalist. NO AI. https://sethrutledge.com

My gf and I agree, the big problem with both ‘Devil Wears Prada’ movies is they make a big initial noise about Andy’s belief in journalism and stopping enshitification, and then ignore it for the rest of the films.

My yearly subscription for Creative Cloud is this month - they've removed my online school as an approved "education" discount and shit AI into everything. I downgraded to just Photoshop, and am considering getting rid of that. Fuck #Adobe, fuck subscription models.

So I only decided I wanted to become "an artist" when I was 32 years old....before that, I was an IT professional who worked in banking, hospitality and health care. I don't think I suddenly "became" more creative when I became an artist.

China puts out over 4 million artists a year with technique better than yours or mine. How do you differentiate yourself from all the other people trying for the same jobs? Why should I hire you? Lots of artists are ‘easy to work with’. What makes YOU special?

Not that the people who want to hear that "I hate illustration / genre" will listen but: I want you to make whatever kind of images you want to make. You don't need to care if I find them boring or not. I'm still allowed to find them boring. The industry would be better if it had more of YOU.

Really interesting to see the reactions to my "Art" post yesterday...started out with people mostly agreeing with me, and then the "illustration is technique" and "all art is meaningful, no matter what" crowds showed up with a VENGEANCE.

"Art" these days means very different things to people. For many, it's something they can contribute to the TTRPG / video game / animation / tv industries - NOT something to express their humanity and POV. They don't want to talk about the human condition, they want to get paid to paint dragons.

lol, no, thank unions. Capital would work you 24/7 in a coalmine starting at the ripe old age of 7 if they were allowed to. Every ounce of leisure time working people have is because workers organized.

I REALLY want to know why any media outlet cares about Emily Wilson's take on "The Odyssey" - And why anyone let's themselves get in any way affected by it. A scholarly academic didn't like a mainstream movie written for broad cross-political appeal. Water is also wet.
