A tale of two power faces. EU July '26 clean power generation was marked by record solar, onshore and offshore wind, but hydro reached its lowest July total since 2015 amid drought and extreme heat, while nuclear is lagging among planned closures and heat-related shutdowns. #EnergySky

Belgium's electricity mix is nuclear free for the first time in decades since this morning after Tihange 3 closed down for its 6-months refurbishement program. Doel 4 did the same a few days ago. Until November, Belgium will rely heavily on imports and to some extent new gas plants. #EnergySky

Rain is usually a boon in Tehran, a break from the dusty air and the heat, auguring clear skies afterwards and the best views of the Albruz in the North. Well, not anymore, thanks to the Israel/US "defensive" war of aggression.

New data for February 2026 confirms that the monthly sea level for the Baltic Sea was the lowest on record. The average monthly sea level across all 14 Finnish tide gauges was -51.7 cm in February 2026, breaking thus the long-standing record set in February 1947.

Average Baltic Sea level, two panel-plot. First one shows the monthly distribution with Feb 2026 value highlighted in the far left side of the data. The 2nd panel shows the time series 1922–2026 with again Feb 2026 highlighted with a red circle.

Faced with one of its coldest winter in a decade, the EU's power demand in January clocked at its highest since 2019. Wind and solar performed on similar levels to latest years, but nuclear and hydro are falling short, while gas picked up the slack. #EnergySky
