I work at a public library. People who want to use AI seem to have no trouble doing so. People who don't want to use AI have a harder time. I crowdsourced and then finalized this document "How to disable or avoid intrusive AI" and then gave it a short URL: notoai.org Please pass along if it's useful
(Complimentary) 🔥🔥🔥🔥

Got inspired by some of the authors I saw at Lavender Con this past weekend and spent tonight working on designing a little zine with some of my older stories that are out of exclusivity... 👀
Contract signed, so I can officially scream that my story "His Face, in the End, Inches From Mind" will be in the third issue of @othersidespec.bsky.social this September!!
I’m not worried about trans women in bathrooms, I’m worried about walking into one and seeing JK Rowling taking pictures there.

New story day! This one is inspired, very loosely, by George MacDonald’s 19th century fairy tale “The Day Boy and the Night Girl.” It took me nearly two years to get right, and I’m glad I allowed the time. Many thanks to editor Scott Andrews for his patience and for believing in this story.
Beneath Ceaseless Skies - Dreams in Burnished Silver by Christine Hanolsy
When the evening bell rang, we filed past each other once more, and this time I kept my chin lifted. You found me right away, pressed a tiny metal disc into my hand as we passed: a minuscule mirror th...

Okay, I ended up having way more to say about The Odyssey after last night so I threw up a pretty lengthy post on my long-neglected blog about it!
Elijah J. Mears | Thoughts on Nolan’s Odyssey
Christopher Nolan's take on the Odyssey is the biggest thing in theaters right now, and I definitely have thoughts.

Okay, seeing The Odyssey in about an hour and a half. I'm always super nervous about Classics adaptations but I'm cautiously optimistic based on the rave reviews, so... we'll see!

What if I told you about King Midas. What if I did it three more times. What if it was queer. What if it was trans. What if it was in Small Wonders TODAY.
You know the story of Midas, right? Stories shift and warp though, so let's hear that old tale a few more times. Let @elijah.mea.rs tell us how "He Washes His Sins In the River" :

I'm still waiting for a true modern successor to Railroad Tycoon II. There are now games that far exceed it in terms of transportation logistics, and there are a few games that match or come close to it in their economic/company simulation, but nothing I know of has really done both at once since.
Name your dream videogame announcement.

Really glad to see Team Bona standing up for human authors *and* making sure that others can benefit from what they've learned here—and I'm as excited as ever to be able to share "Attack of the 50-Foot Faggot!" with everyone when Wrath Month finally smashes through your window later this year!
AI fraud nearly derailed our next anthology. Today we’re talking about what went down, the things we missed, and publishing the report we wish we’d had when it happened. Read all about it on our new blog, and download the full report:
My partner and I are still fundraising to help cover the costs of their gender affirming surgery next month! We're nearly halfway to our goal and extremely grateful to all the support we've received so far!
Happy Pride! As some of you know, my partner, Beryl, has been working toward gender affirming surgery over the course of the last year, and we are currently fundraising to help cover the associated costs! We would sincerely appreciate any help you can offer as well as sharing across your networks. 🙏
this is my official contribution to the discourse the other week about whether or not authors should use unfamiliar words in stories 🥰

A market which shall remain nameless rejected a story set in fantasy Appalachia and told me they would have accepted it but that it had "too much dialect." There was, like, maybe one "ain't" in the whole story? And one time calling a valley a holler and that was basically it for "dialect."
If you see this, please tell me the worst/most baffling bit of creative feedback you've ever recieved. Mine is still the time somebody told me my aliens had names that were too alien. Not that they were unpronounceable, just that they didn't sound enough like human names.
okay so maybe keeping this story to only 2,000 words was overly ambitious 🫠
