This is making the rounds in my blogger community. While big media companies are affected, small, independent creators are equally affected. We might not be as recognized as a resource, but I guarantee that most people consume independent creator content on a daily basis.
The @nytimes.com’s A.G. Sulzberger urges the media to unite and fight back. Big Tech’s “hijacking of the public square is made possible by the original sin that animates their AI products — a brazen theft of intellectual property that has occurred at an unprecedented scale,” he argued:

I do not want Gemini. I am an environmentalist who cycles everywhere because I believe the threat of climate change is worse than inconvenience. I'm a creator whose work was stolen to train LLMs like Gemini. How do I make sure it's turned off? #noai #techhelp #writer #photographer #gemini
In the past two weeks, nearly every company has popped into my inbox or on my computer to announce their new AI... Even my website advertiser has a new Chief AI Officer. (So much for protecting creators!) I wonder if it signals desperation? Or is it just the new fidget-spinner? Gotta have it!
I have a feeling the whole Jenga tower of the LLM scheme is going to come crashing down after they've all gone public. They just want to cash in on their stock options before everyone realizes how expensive and useless their product is. At best, LLM's future is as a very fancy chatbot.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I can't find a single word in here about protecting Canadian artists from having their work stolen by AI companies, or compensating them for that stolen work. Why is it that people who create Canadian culture don't deserve accountability or control?
We just launched Canada’s new AI Strategy: AI For All. We’re taking control of our future — with AI that’s governed by Canadian values, AI that’s accountable to Canadians, and AI that serves all Canadians. www.pm.gc.ca/en/news/news...

After looking for an AI-free search engine I settled on StartPage. It doesn't have a computer browser yet. The search is AI free and you can turn off the AI option in the mobile app. 😅 Why am I forced to see the source of my exploitation in every app? #writer #photographer #noAI @startpage.com

Can you share whether this push for AI is because OpenAI is paying for it? It seems really odd to have a "green" search engine embrace very dirty tech without clearly showing the energy and water costs.
Apollo is literally a walking weighted blanket. Seriously the best male energy possible in the winter. (A bit more problematic in the summer or if I have a work deadline).
If you've ever thought about growing a Victory garden, this is the year! Personally, I am very concerned about the potential for global food shortages in the upcoming year. While we may have to spend more money for our food, many may go hungry. www.pbs.org/newshour/wor...
'The planting season is now,' but war in Iran has sparked a global fertilizer shortage
The fertilizer shortage is putting the livelihood of farmers in developing countries — already troubled by rising temperatures and erratic weather systems — further at risk, and could lead to people e...

This is exactly why language matters: “women were given the vote” frames equality as a gift from men, instead of hard won political power extracted through organized resistance. Nobody gave women anything. Women fought, marched, strategized, endured violence, went to prison and died for it.
Give up AI for Earth Day. Go into all your apps and browsers. Turn it off, delete it. Do whatever you need to do.
A WIRED review of permits for data center projects using natural gas and linked to OpenAI, Meta, Microsoft, and xAI shows they could emit more than 129 million tons of greenhouse gases per year. www.wired.com/story/new-ga...

I hate having to do the "look, they're normal just like us" post, but sometimes you have to do that when American propaganda tries to convince everyone Iranians are "animals".
Reporter: “How would it not be a war crime to strike Iran’s bridges and power plants?” Trump: “They’re animals.”

It's publication week for my friend, Kevin Bartlett! Here's an interview about his book, Timebomb, and why he decided to write it! cullandco.com/2026/02/28/b... #book #booklaunch #historicalthriller #murdermystery
Behind the Book: TIMEBOMB by Kevin P. Bartlett
I wrote Timebomb by accident. On the hundredth anniversary of Henry Moseley’s death, in 2015, a flurry of history podcasts came out about his life and legacy. Because of my physics degree, I …
