Too many people have been killed on Seattle’s streets in recent weeks. These tragedies are preventable. Tell Seattle leaders to improve intersection safety, require side guards on large trucks, and prioritize Vision Zero. Take Action: actionnetwork.org/letters/plea...

This contradiction isn't talked about enough. We can't want prices to rise (for home value to appreciate) and fall (for homes to be affordable) at the same time!
Housing is more than a place to live. For millions of Americans, it is their retirement plan. This creates a conflict: homeowners need prices to rise, while aspiring buyers need them to come down. From @kyla.bsky.social in @nytimes.com:

Many of these private utilities in the West should have been investing more of their record profits in wildfire prevention over the last few decades, rather than hiking rates in haste following 2020 wake up call and asking ratepayers to urgently shoulder the burden.

PNW utilities are spending millions of their customers' $ to prevent wildfires, while asking for liability shields. A better idea is more oversight of utilities' spending so that we can prevent megafires AND the runaway electricity rates that squeeze budgets and undermine electrification.
How liable should utility companies be for wildfires?
