En Buen Ora

Account named for the *poem* El Cid (not the historical figure) & one of its lines, "El que en buen ora cinxo espada". Leftist. Las Vegas NV USA. He/him. I block people who appear b/c of auto-notification & feeds of words/phrases as troll shit.

The details are a little fuzzy, but I think what happened is even funnier: The call was *hosted* by the White House Faith Office and *posted* by a religious activist group, which once again affirms that the people in charge of the government right now are some of the stupidest motherfuckers alive

As his confirmation to lead the Justice Department hung by a thread last week, acting Attorney General Todd Blanche told faith leaders on a private call that he was preparing to take action to roll back abortion access nationwide.
On a recording of the call posted online Thursday by the religious group Intercessors for America and hosted by the White House Faith Office, Blanche lamented that the Trump administration’s efforts to restrict abortion are “taking longer than we want” but said the Justice Department was “working hand in hand” with federal health agencies and the White House “so that the Dobbs decision becomes permanent in every single state.”

"Off the record" is an agreement between a journalist and a source, and the agreement must take place BEFORE the disclosure of "off the record" information. You can't unilaterally assert it, and it isn't retroactive. You also definitely can't assert it once you, uh, post it on YouTube.

So what is the journalistic rule of thumb here? If a journalist was on the call would he even have any responsibility to take this "off record" since it sounds like anyone might have been able to join the call.

Dying at the right-wing activists that (1) held a call with Todd Blanche in which Blanche made a lot of anti-abortion promises, (2) said "uh this is off the record" like doing so would magically ward off journalists, and then (3) UPLOADED IT TO THEIR YOUTUBE CHANNEL www.politico.com/news/2026/08...

The acting attorney general’s conversation with Trump appears to have taken place just hours after the president publicly mused about pulling Blanche’s nomination and instead trying to push through a fund that could be used to compensate Jan. 6 rioters and others who claim to have been persecuted by the Biden administration.
Announcements at the beginning and end of the Intercessors for America call stated that it was “not intended for press purposes.” A speaker told attendees that the call was “not on the record” and directed any journalists on the line to hang up.
POLITICO was not on the call on Thursday when it took place and did not agree to any limits on reporting. Audio of the session was posted on YouTube by Intercessors for America, which calls itself “the largest national prayer ministry dedicated to praying for our government and leaders.”
As of Monday, the recording remained publicly accessible.

this is very cool, a lot of fun to read - and one of the many takeaways from it is that Homer is already sort of "non-canon" vis-a-vis previous Greek religious practice, as is a lot of what i'd call the "D'Aulaire's model" of "Greek mythology" that we've gotten in the modern west

I have a master's degree in Ancient Greek and Roman Studies, I've studied the 'Odyssey' in Ancient Greek, and I've been writing about the ancient world for over a decade. This is my exhaustive review of Christopher Nolan's 'The Odyssey'. #Odyssey #classics talesoftimesforgotten.com/2026/07/23/a...

This kind of turnout suggests major Democratic activation in the state. Across the board, Dems are going to have tailwinds heading into 2026. Anti-Trump backlash has been the big driver of Democratic wins in the last decade after losing so much ground during the Obama years. El-Sayed can win.

Karl Rove's little whiteboard on Fox News, lol. Like... idk, man. I'm not sure that the strategy of expecting people to know a bunch of Hasan Piker lore AND them caring enough about it to the point that it affects who they vote for is going to work, but okay.

We knew license plate readers, PredPol, and “targeted enforcement” were used to effectively occupy particular communities with constant surveillance and harass anyone who left/lived there. We added capacity anyway.

SCHIFF: You told my staff you stood by your article in white nationalist website VDARE where you wrote, 'Muslim immigrants & their kids seem prone to terrorism' C: I wrote that article in support of Trump's travel ban S: Do you stand by it? C: I stand by that article S: That's all I need to know

It’s wild how Kemi is just this funhouse mirror of ten years of horrible UK politics and media, showing the rest of them their reflections with deeply unsettling and embarrassing distortion. What she’s doing is IMO little different to what they’ve done, it’s just more ham-fisted, crass and idiotic.

I don’t think Badenoch’s plainly unreformed neo-Nazi adviser is any sillier or more insulting than anything else her cohort have to say about destabilisation, anti-racism and anti-extremism. She’s just too stupid to realise you can’t do this with someone jailed for quite horrifically abusing an MP.

While I am sad that Joshua feels he won't be given the space to explain his position and represent his community, I am glad he is going to work with me and the party on tackling radicalisation as part of our Culture and Integration commission.
If we are going to stop extremism and antisemitism we are going to need help from those people who were part of the problem, but have now changed and are being part of the solution. Piling on them and trying to get them cancelled may be sport for other parties, but this is a different Conservative Party.
Sometimes there will be difficult judgement calls, but right now I know that we are the only party actively working to unite the country rather than one particular faction or other.

The last 24 hours have shown that a lot of people do not understand how terrible I feel about the things I did when I was much younger....

Three years ago, the Biden White House attacked me for saying "Democrats should be fighting on every possible front — filing a flurry of lawsuits and exerting public pressure through the media." "The president's team wants to be more selective in picking legal fights." I feel sadly vindicated.

The $30 million AIPAC wasted in Michigan, wasted trying to help Haley Stevens, could have been used to fully fund and deliver 6 million malaria nets to sub-Saharan Africa. Or, it could have fully paid for universal free school breakfasts in Mississippi, America's poorest state.

Kind of wild to see takes that winning a close race vs a candidate backed by every major office holder in your state and the party’s national leadership including senior kingmakers like Clyburn is somehow a sign of *weakness*.

A stock market is where shares in companies are bought and sold based on economic data such as “did the president say war words or peace words last night?” and “can you imagine a future where computers do all your work for you much better than you do would but you keep all the money?”
