On 19 November 2025, the European Commission unveiled the new Digital Omnibus, claiming it would “simplify” tech rules. In reality, it reopens laws that protect us from Big Tech abuse, unsafe AI, scams, and online harm.
#BigTech is trying to break the rules - again. Google and Musk were held accountable, but lobbyists now want to weaken the laws that protect our safety, privacy, and money online ✍️ Tell EU leaders: protect people, not billionaires! action.wemove.eu/sign/2026-01...

BSky's super-block is brilliant. It cuts off bad-actors instantly. I think the level of discourse here is much better than on other places. But it achieves this by publishing your block lists for everyone to see. And there's *nothing* about it in their privacy policy bsky.social/about/suppor...

Look at this graph we discussed in my Danish class today. 👀 63% of Danes believe (or believed in 2022) that we must change our lifestyles to resolve the climate crisis. Only 11% believe technology is the solution. Both men and women largely agree in this regard. This is remarkable! 1/2

I know the campaign is called "chat control", but don't let that fool you into thinking it's trivial. EU Home Affairs ministers want to rule out the possibility of you having a confidential conversation at a distance. In a digital society, that's unacceptable. Read up; sign up: fightchatcontrol.eu

We now have audited data on water consumption for AI. Over the 18 month lifespan of Mistral Large 2, a 128B model, all water usage (including chats, training; hardware & data centers) took as much water as 678 US households use yearly. Each additional query is 45 mL. (Fixed a conversion error)

@moderation.bsky.app suspended our director, Evan Greer's Bluesky account for speaking out about an awful experience from a transphobic bigot...is @bsky.app on the way to becoming the next Twitter/X ? Re-skeet + demand Bluesky unsuspend her account!
Oh yeah if folks don't know, Nazis stole "fren" from the lolcat folks years ago and backronymed it to mean "far right ethno-nationalist." It is used almost exclusively by Nazis now bsky.app/profile/erin...
Also using “frens” Feels like Musk trained the new version of this on some VERY specific sources.

I get annoyed at the narrative that all the awareness and work on climate change hasn't done anything. Yes, global CO₂ emissions indeed continue to climb, but we don't know the counterfactual. When I was in grad school, we were on track for 5°C of warming. Now it's below 3°C. That's progress.
