You know, I agree with the people of Kansas City that tenant organising builds power, with the people of Michigan that we should hold our elected officials to support Palestinian freedom, and with the people of Minneapolis that ICE must be abolished and driven into deepest reaches of hell, so...

I really hate Elissa Slotkin's patronizing "my theory of the case is that what works in the middle of the country will work on the coasts, but not the other way around" shit. It's one of her canned lines that she uses in her eventual attempt to run for president.

Here's my theory of the case: If Democrats can figure out how to win in the middle of the country, we can make it work everywhere else. But what works on the coasts does not automatically work in Michigan, in lowa, in Ohio. So we've got to figure out the middle first.
That is why I have been spending time in the middle of the country, in purple and red places. I've been talking with folks who voted for Trump about how they view things and what they're looking for in new Democratic leaders.
And I want to say something about the Democrats organizing in tough places.
These are people doing the hard work in red places, being good Democrats when it's hard. It is easy to show up where everyone already agrees with you. It is something else to show up where they don't, and do it anyway, because you believe it matters.
I believe it matters. And I am going to keep showing up in those places. I hope you will too.

We live in capitalism. Its power seems inescapable. So did the divine right of kings. Any human power can be resisted and changed by human beings. Resistance and change often begin in art, and very often in our art, the art of words.

Saying, then living, "we are not afraid" (despite fear!) is world-changing. Sometimes the scale of change is tiny. But sometimes, as with the students in India now and the freedom rider in the US who gave us that verse, it is not small at all

by the way, my plan for "regaining public trust in academia", not that anyone asked, is organising to make higher education free for everyone. the great thing is that free higher education is a good in itself, questions of public trust aside!

I called Mfume's office to ask whether he's taken position on the Massie amendment and to encourage him to vote yes, and the person on the phone was like "I'm an intern so I'm not allowed to tell you whether he's taken a position"? Like, what is your office doing
