4.5 years came to an end - and it was an amazing journey :) Thanks to all who accompanied and supported me along the way. A special thanks to my supervisors Stefano @manzonilab.bsky.social and Salim Belyazid, and all colleagues and friends at the Dept. of Physical Geography at Stockholm University.

Happy to post the news that @erikschwarz.bsky.social has successfully defended his PhD thesis “Microbial ecology in soil carbon models". Opponent: Sergey Blagodatsky; evaluators: Nadja Ray, Katharina Meurer, Jan Bengtsson. Congratulations Dr. Schwarz! 🎉🎊 (photo by Abigail Robinson)

New Nature Ecology & Evolution paper out today @natecoevo.nature.com! We find that models deviate from observations in the weighting of important soil processes. This mismatch has important implications for developing soil carbon models and improving predictions of soil carbon fate in the future 🌍

Soil microbes grow, respire, die. Because their biomass eventually becomes necromass, and necromass can be stabilized in soil, growth rate emerges as a powerful predictor of soil carbon: www.nature.com/articles/s41...

My colleague Christian Poll offers a PhD position in our group at University of Hohenheim, we would be glad if you share this opportunity with potential candidates. His project EcoFuture KAP4 is an interesting collaborative project with University of Tübingen. dbges.de/assets/Uploa...

@bolincentre.bsky.social www.svt.se/nyheter/loka...

Skelettskogar breder ut sig – forskare ser lösning i blandskog

Skelettskogar och värme – så påverkar granbarkborren skogen. Fler lövträd kan göra skogarna mer motståndskraftiga, visar ny forskning.

📣 New PhD student position opening in my lab! Soils are full of microbes, but how many are active? Surprisingly, we still lack reliable methods to answer this. If you are interested in microbial dormancy and are fascinated by the Alps and glacier forefields, contact me. 🏔️ 🦠 💤 🧬 🎓

Our ability to predict how biology will feed back to climate change relies on our ability to convert biological insights into mathematica formulations that can be scaled up in structured ways, within the context of Earth System Models (ESMs)...

Join @manzonilab.bsky.social, Elisa Bruni, and me to discuss "Challenges in modelling microbial interactions in SOC decomposition". Very excited to participate in this webinar series!
