The cops forcefully cancelled the vehicles already booked by the students. Authorities visited campuses and intimidated students. CCTV cameras suddenly being turned off at protest locations has become a routine. en.tempo.co/read/2117886...

The phrase "virtue signaling" rests on the unstated assumption that virtue is only an act. That everyone is a bigot underneath. Its entire purpose is self-justification. Performing virtue through acts that help is categorically different.

People talk shit about virtue signaling and announcing what you’re doing But folks like Mamdani know that signaling is part of the work. Energizing people letting them know what’s possible etc

One thing hasn't changed: I'm usually here to post news about Indonesia (usually not cheery) and/or my writing. This regime has been unbelievable. /derogatory

After seeing @eveshi.bsky.social post about lack of coverage of protests in indonesia this week (which I also missed), went looking for coverage here & saw this good piece from @ekawatikartika21.bsky.social "Journalism exists to bear witness. To document. To challenge" Worth a read.

I just published Why Are Indonesia’s Mass Protests Missing from the Headlines? medium.com/p/why-are-in...

Public rallies against the 🇮🇩 government policies from July 17 to July 24, on public streets, and there have only been sporadic posts on Twitter. Barely any coverage in national media. Daily posts and videos on Threads, at least.

the most realistic scene in Jurassic Park is when two scientists make a questionable decision — traveling to an undisclosed location with a strange man — on the promise of three years of modest funding

Here's a take I don't see many people talking about. If you use AI slop in your commercial branding (cover, merch, copy texts, logo), it's clear to me you have zero respect for the business you're (trying to) build. AI slop cannot be copyrighted.

I do not like this gen AI I do not like what it implies I do not want it in my art I do not think it makes you smart I do not want it in my games I do not like its goals and aims I do not want it in my books I do not like the way it looks I do not like it, I don't care I do not want it anywhere

For #TolkienTrewsday theme of "forgiveness": I always see thematic connection of transformation and redemption in Roverandom (a dog being turned into a toy after biting a wizard) and Sundanese folktale Lutung Kasarung (a deity being turned into a monkey and had to help a banished princess). 1/3

A colorful, whimsical illustration by Nadya Noor depicting a black haired princess called Purbasari gently holding a squirrel in her palms. Behind her, hanging on a thick vine, is the silhouette of Lutung Kasarung. The forest around her is adorned with batik flowers and clouds.A pencil illustration byAlan Lee of Rover, a spotted dog, sitting on the back of a giant flying albatross.

"Write for yourself, publish for your readers." Great advice. I'll just continue working on this side story that's all me, 100% conforming (pun unintended) to my id - *horror movie synopsis competition: exists* Huh.
