My feelings on the Hank Green situation are actually complicated. I just hope he gets better, because he has spent years making informative, progressive leaning, thoughtful videos.

I generally like Hank Green, but his lack of skepticism when it comes to LLMs has been frustrating. I think it comes from a good place: usually in a scientific field you should try to find the experts and defer to them. Unfortunately many of those people are deliberately misrepresenting the tech.

Using A.I. for a shitpost/meme completely misunderstands what makes them funny. High effort ones are funny because someone put a ton of time into something silly/stupid. Low effort ones are funny in large part BECAUSE they're janky and handmade.

Feel the need to reiterate: Any and all use of generative A.I. is bad. I do not want it anywhere near art/media. I wish the people developing it, funding it, supporting it, promoting it, pushing it, and using it would all eat a bag of shit.

Gonna be real: it's deeply shitty to aggressively demand that artists who worked on a large project guarantee to you that nobody who touched the project used AI. They can't know that and they're not responsible for that. They can only know things within the scope of their own job.

I know that showing grace and being charitable in the face of potential wrongdoing is difficult, uncomfortable, and may make you look supportive of said "wrongdoing." I still struggle with that. But I'm sick of trying to burn down people/art because I'm too quick to buy narratives.

It's taken me a long time to stop prematurely rushing to have a public opinion on controversies that are still unfolding. I think what really helped was being a part of a couple, and watching people immediately make judgements of me/my team based off of lies/incomplete information.
