I've just had an all-butter croissant AND a pain chocolat for my breakfast. (In the Vendée, we don't EVER call them "chocolatines." Only the barbarians to the south say that.)

If you see this, post a pic of you in sunglasses. (Does 1989 count though?)

The contrast between wealthy, true British patriots like Gay Lineker and wealthy, self serving, racist tax avoiders who pretend to love Britain, couldn’t be greater. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Oh dear, apparently if you say "women = adult human female" it's now far right politics bordering on actual genocide....les pauvres petits choux choux.
Can everyone please make sure any posts about football use the word football, so they get properly muted on my feed. Thank you. Grumpy git.

This ad for the UK Lottery: "You've got two chances with one ticket." Now my maths is a bit rusty, but if EVERY ticket suddenly has two chances to win, surely the change makes precisely zero difference to each customer's chances?
Yay, Fort Boyard is back on France 2! (Think "Total Wipeout" meets "Crystal Maze" meets "I'm a Celebrity," but all in French)
So, it's this weekend that the nights start drawing in - is that right?
And people say He doesn't have a sense of humour! (As further evidence, I call this young lady who we visited this week)

Can any Irish people on here answer a question for me? (eg @nialloconghaile.bsky.social ) Does Ireland use American spellings of English? I keep seeing references to the 'SAFE Defense Fund," which is explicitly European. Just wondered if the remaining Anglophone MS spells it that way.
Too hot to cook or eat indoors, so I used my new outdoor kit to produce cod, prawns, a scallop, local new potatoes (Notre Dame de Riez) and asparagus, in a white wine and cream sauce.
"Does not deny" What possible reason could there be for the spokesman NOT to say simply, "No, it's not true." Or even, "Don't be ridiculous, why would the PM want HIM back?" Only one reason I can think of - MMcS is back in the room.
Keir Starmer's spokesman does not deny reports that Morgan McSweeney is now advising the Prime Minister again
I've signed thus - UK citizens and residents, please join me!
We all know the news media is out of control in the UK. So please sign my petition calling for a single, powerful, independent statutory regulator for all news media! The Government must create a single, independent statutory regulator covering print, broadcast, and digital news media. 1/4
I don't like watching videos, I want to READ exactly what the PM said today. Why doesn't the "gov" site, the Labour Party site, or even his own website, have the text of his speech? No wonder his messages aren't getting through! (The newspapers which say they have it, all have "money/data" walls.)

For peanut-free meals: you have to leave the peanuts out. It's really not that hard. For women's protected spaces, you have to leave the men out. It's really not that hard. adapted from Naomi Cunningham's post.
This morning is our personal D-Day anniversary. Nine years ago, we landed on the Normandy beaches (well, rolled off the ferry at Caen), to begin our new life in France!
Ah, the 8th of May. When we celebrate the defeat of Nazism. Except, apparently, in the UK. 😥😥
Here's an idea: before replying to a post about politics, check what COUNTRY it's talking about. American friends, we sympathise deeply with you, we really do, but PLEASE don't jump on posts that are all about UK politics, to tell us AGAIN how dreadful your president and his cronies are. Thank you.
I'm mildly curious about (though not greatly troubled by) days when several people block me. Usually I can see something I've said that day, but not today. Anyone fancy looking at these profiles to give me a clue? (I can't, cos they blocked me!)
Our media hated Corbyn but now ask his disgruntled supporters for an opinion on Starmer as if they're the voice of reason. Corbyn led Labour to the worst defeat in living memory in 2019, in 2024 Starmer led them to number 10, but of course let's ask the losing team for a status update.
