One of my favorite and most effective design patterns is "tell the player exactly what you're gonna do to them, then do it." You can be SIGNIFICANTLY meaner to the player if you simply tell them ahead of time that that's exactly what you'll be doing, and also the suspense of the warning is a delight
Surely this applies to someone reading this.

It has taken me 3 years to reach a point where I COULD be referred for top surgery. I've spent nearly £2,000 getting here. I was, no kidding, at most 2 months away. This is... hard. And why is it paused? Because the Welsh service was ACTUALLY REFERRING PEOPLE AT A REASONABLE RATE.

It's been at least 10 years since I rode a horse. 20+ since I worked with horses. It STILL pisses me off when I see people on TV cantering on tarmac surfaces.
One of my groups is playing through A Saga of the Fragile Peace, for the Household TTRPG. I really appreciate that they know *exactly* how much adventure you need for a session. I've always said you need about 1/3 as much plot as you think, and this is a great example.
