Hi friends, if you’re looking for me, I’m posting more on Threads these days!
Faizah Malik (she/her)
@faizahforla.bsky.social
Mom, community lawyer, daughter of immigrants, SoCal born and raised. Former candidate for LA City Council District 11.
So to recap: RAP commissioners retroactively voted to approve a contract for an event that did not actually happen in the way described in said contract 🙃 And are there no penalties for failing to deliver what was promised? Here's the agreement: recreation.parks.lacity.gov/sites/defaul...
Last night the Venice Neighborhood Council heard residents' complaints about last weekend's fan zone that privatized the beach. Here's one letter that details the potential violations — including heavy promotion of the events on Traci Park's social media accounts: www.venicenc.org/assets/docum...

The promoter of all these Venice events privatizing the beach — including events that aren't showing World Cup matches but are still apparently working closely with certain local officials to make them all happen — is a DJ who moved here 18 months ago
I hate reading stories like this because it provides talking points to people like Traci Park and Spencer Pratt to attack homelessness spending and “housing first” writ large. This is why progressives MUST care about transparency and accountability in government programs. laist.com/news/housing...
More than 250 tax-funded LA apartments sit empty under key Mayor Bass homelessness strategy
The vacancies, uncovered by an LAist investigation, are part of an initiative L.A. Mayor Karen Bass introduced years ago.

LA, our megaevent age is upon us. And it all starts with this 39-day test run. This is not a guide for attending World Cup matches. This is not even a guide for watching World Cup matches. (Remember the Torched promise: no sports!) This is a guide for finding and sharing the best of our city

If you are mad about how broken LA feels, confused why no one seems to be in charge, and brokenhearted that I lost my election to an anti-housing MAGA funded incumbent, let me direct your energy toward the LA City Charter, which is going through a big rewrite. 🧵cc @fairrepla.bsky.social
Does Karen Bass want to lose the progressive vote? She seems determined.
NEW The campaign of LA Mayor Karen Bass is now directing its attacks against Nithya Raman as her presumed opponent in the general election. Her campaign spokesperson, Alex Stack, just issued this statement:
It's great to see Raman likely advancing to the next round, but at the same time it's gut wrenching knowing that Faizah won't be representing the westside. The city council determines the fate of LA, and we need to grapple with the fact that MAGA money bought Traci Park another 4 years.
We have everything to be proud of. First of all, I want to share my love and gratitude to my family, our team, and all the incredible people of CD11 who supported our campaign and built a truly beautiful movement here on the Westside.

Wondering where to spend your evening on election night? We’ve got you! Join Team Faizah at 8pm at The Lincoln. This night belongs to all of you. Let’s end this thing in style! 📅: Tuesday JUNE 2ND 🕗: 8pm 📍: The Lincoln (21+ venue!) 📍: 2536 Lincoln Blvd, Venice CA
For the past year and a half, Traci Park has been telling CD11 constituents that the Venice Dell affordable housing project is “dead.” Well guess what? As of this past week it’s clear that the project is not dead and it never was. Traci has been lying.
One of the people quoted is CD11 Councilwoman Traci Park, who has over past years repeated the debunked claim that unhoused Angelenos are almost all from out of state, and whose reelection campaign has repeatedly featured images of encampments (including one of vets cleared before she took office)

Yesterday we met a voter who said she and her friends held a cleansing ceremony to help guide the voters of CD11 to vote for me and all of the progressive candidates in LA. I just know we are gonna win now 🧿✨🔮
Knocking doors for @faizahforla.bsky.social today 🫡 🌹
Honored to have the backing of these elected leaders across the Westside of LA County!
There's already a MAGA politician in LA. Funded by real estate interests & corporations, Traci Park is trying to make the west side more unaffordable. And she's one of the few local politicians who praised Donald Trump for his response to the LA wildfires. Vote @faizahforla.bsky.social for CD-11.
I stand in solidarity with the brave people on hunger strike at the Adelanto Detention Center. Through their efforts they are bringing attention to the inhumane conditions detainees are being subjected to in this privately owned detention facility. laist.com/brief/news/i...

This @metrolosangeles.bsky.social map was a lifesaver when I visited LA: Metro Stations with Restroom Access! When nature calls, you gotta go!! Bless the Throne restrooms!! 🙏🏻🚾🚇🚈
I stand in solidarity with the Muslim community in San Diego following the horrific shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego, on the first day of Dhul Hijjah, which is especially sacred as it commemorates the final month of the Islamic calendar and signifies the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca.
If we want to Zohranify LA, we need a city council supermajority. The only way to do that is electing @faizahforla.bsky.social to CD11, and in the process knocking out the only MAGA city councilor. The election is June 2nd. If you can, donate to her fantastic campaign here:

Outside groups are spending millions of dollars to keep Traci Park in power. According to the City Ethics filings, there are $3.5M+ in independent expenditures for Traci in this race. Voters deserve to know who's bankrolling her, so let’s break it down. [1/8]
Not me, us. Thank you Bernie Sanders for your endorsement!
IMPORTANT LA RACE ALTERT! It’s a chance to get a NIMBY out of office, and instead elect @faizahforla.bsky.social , who has been working in housing justice for years 1/
begging Los Angeles votes her in. LA can't functionally have a "Mamdani" (Mayor power works differently) so City Council is everything.
Let’s Talk Policy! One of the most important things as your champion in city hall is communicating exactly HOW I will fight for you. Our campaign has 9 policy platforms that are some of the most detailed policies in the city!

If you live in LA, it is essential that you talk with your friends and get them to vote for Faizah

L.A. moves to delay $30-an-hour minimum wage for hotel, airport workers tied to 2028 Olympics
The move, which would delay the wage hike by two years to 2030, is aimed at stopping a ballot initiative to repeal a business tax that could cost the city some $860 million annually.

You’ve got one more week to register to vote! MAY 18th is the LAST DAY! If you’re not sure if you are registered you can check online at voterstatus.sos.ca.gov.
Happy w/how much of the @faizahforla.bsky.social pamphlet I managed to get into a two-page spread in my personal scrapbook. It's a good feeling to vote for someone as much bc you hate the incumbent as bc you like their opponent. What a relief it would be to have her on City Council. Godspeed. #CD11
