Like clockwork, the govt that has done more to destroy employment than any other in decades is trying to get re-elected by blaming people for being unemployed. No solutions, only punishment. Pure cynicism. www.stuff.co.nz/politics/361...
Microsoft running their ‘new products’ live stream with the CEO and their viewer count is going down as the event is going on. Why? It’s all AI.
Anyone know anyone working on mobile at TradeMe? Cos Leonie’s about to send a… um ok let’s not get the GCHQ involved. But it’s taking 4-6 attempts to list a pair of shoes.
Watership Down. tho we had a school trip to watch Ben Hur (I was like 8 or something?) which is, frankly, not really suitable.

Happy Northern Exposure Redux release day to those to celebrate. 30 fucking years. It’s older than some of my team mates.
Turns out this didn’t work 5G fails. Totally. Go back to 4G: works right away. Slightly stuck on Spark due to reason but might be looking at it OneNZ after vowing to never use them again. Or work out if 2D works at all at home.
Turns out. 5G Auto, on Auckland harbour, will constantly fail as it switches towers and bands. 10 second pings or full speed. Constantly. Line of site to towers, too. 5G On works nicely. Difference between being able to work on the ferry and not.

Whatever you do, don't smoke an entire brisket at a job interview, it's a lot of equipment to bring in, it takes a really long time to do it right and those conference rooms have notoriously poor ventilation
Finally watched this. It’s excellent. m.youtube.com/watch?v=LwWS... Also excellent use of subtitles for some of the Te Reo phrases

This is excellent - esp the "don't trust ZIRP-era advice". Not just for beginners.
Advice to a beginning software engineer
In general, you should be suspicious of engineers who are trying to give you advice. Even during ordinary times, this industry is so wide and changes so quickly…

Next song/video - Al surfing his asteroid, silver surfer style, with his accordion and Hawaiian shirt, ending with it heading for earth….
We offer every candidate water / coffee / whatever before we start. If the BYO… it's just one job less for us… It's an interview not an interrogation.
I’m sorry, but if you bring an iced coffee - or any damn beverage at all - to a job interview, you’re disqualified. It’s not hard, people.
iPhone users…tip from me this morning if you run a pihole. When you upgrade to iOS 27, your phone will turn on “Connectivity Assist” in your WiFi network settings and all the ads will pour in. Turn it OFF and your ad blocks will work again. Gotta do it per SSID it looks like.
www.stuff.co.nz/nz-news/3610... “Waiheke Island always is expensive because it’s just the nature of the freight cost to get the fuel across there,” Collins said. BS. It’s around 10-12cpl. Not $1
Fuel prices rise sharply - with 91 reaching $4.15 on this island
Kiwis are facing sharply higher pump prices, with petrol and diesel climbing by about 50 cents a litre in less than a month.

The Traitors (UK) really is an excellent advert for Scottish tourism.
I went from the ferry terminal, te waihorotu (train, to get a new hop card of course!) to Parnell on the outer link, picked up a new laptop (15-20 mins) then walked down to work at the bottom of St George’s Bay road (15 min walk??) in under an hour. Sooo smooth and easy. It suck in a car or uber
All this is really just me wanting to to validate what I wrote about the “Ikea effect” before the CRL opened. My guess was correct. Some journeys that felt onerous are now disarmingly easy. Fun, even.
we may set a new 2026 high for average gas prices by the weekend. currently $4.371/gal and climbing, previous high $4.566/gal. diesel average at $6.315/gal and climbing, could hit $6.50/gal in the next 48 hours.
