Pretty sure when you win the election it's a big election night. Pretty sure when your party's leadership all endorses the loser, it means the leadership is out of touch with the electorate.
Progressives didn’t get the big election night they wanted
At some point we — all of us — have to have a serious conversation about priorities. We can't just keep squeezing corporate profits out of everything and insisting everyone just make do somehow.

The weirdest thing about elections in NZ isn’t the level of political corruption, it’s how everyone thinks there isn’t any. If you regulated election spending the entire right wing of NZ politics would evaporate overnight.
From what I've seen of FSU's communications to their members and supporters, they are tilting at windmills. They imagine an intention and operation that simply isn't real. Franks and Douglas Brown have publicly described aspects of the organisation, and what it does, that are totally fictional.
'[FSU] chairperson Stephen Franks said its supporters had an opportunity to “vote against wokester rule” and suggested InternetNZ was charging more than it needed for “.nz” registrations while “siphoning off revenue to matey cause groups in Wellington”. (paywalled) #NzPol
Any #InternetNZ members who haven't already voted in the current board elections: VOTE! It is critical that you do. This is a thread of some useful recommendations a friend put together on how to think about your vote as well as a link to my suggested rankings. bsky.app/profile/jpda...

Infuriating that seemingly with every educational funding review it is the teachers who need to sacrifice. Fix the model - fund & professionally support the staff. newsroom.co.nz/2026/08/05/e... #kikorangi @newsroom.co.nz
Early childhood education is broken, and the funding review won't fix it
Comment from Auckland University: A review of early childhood education claims to balance quality and cost, but it risks making teachers pay for systemic market failure

This ad has been the subject of an ASA complaint. But they apply a frankly, imho, ridiculous standard to political ads and says it was fine. asa.co.nz/decision/26-...
National says it’s “triple your taxes” ads refer to three parties wanting to raise taxes. www.thepost.co.nz/politics/361...
"Who care what the government thinks or does?" is a WILD take for the Prime Minister to be giving businesses. I guess he would prefer that we don't pay taxes, obey laws, and engage with regulators?
Open & free to all: PM admonishes 'negative' Rotorua small business leaders' comments & argues it's not his Govt's job to stimulate GDP or give handouts; Labour & The Post-$ describe comments as 'condescending gibberish' #nzpol open.substack.com/pub/thekaka/...
Talk about a vote of no confidence. Feels like a brutally specific indictment - not just of where things are at right now for young people, but also how they see the future. Can’t say as I blame them; but how do we win back hope?

I would like to propose a members bill banning male politicians telling us to have babies.

One has to wonder if the PM would have been quite so condescending and patronizing if it had been a male asking the same question 🤔🤔🤔 FTR Melanie Short is the very capable and competent head of the Rotorua Business Association.
The full comments the PM made at the Rotorua event, which the PM's office say Labour are mischaracterising as a "patronising lecture". www.thepost.co.nz/politics/361...
The rest of your natural life—and then some. That's how long we'll be cleaning up the mess of Trump and MAGAism. The nation as it was before is lost. It won't return. What we seek to save now isn't what used to be. It'll be something else altogether. It'll be what we make it.
The economy will recover when actual nation builders not parasitical wealth extractors are on the Treasury Benches Vote Greens to give Labour backbone these elections www.nzherald.co.nz/business/slo...
It’s too late for the economy to save National now
OPINION: The economic recovery has stuttered too much to lift the voter mood by November.

You can become disabled or homeless in an instant. It just takes one accident or illness to change your life forever. It’s not a moral failing. You can’t just “try harder”. People need support, compassion and to have their basic needs met. That’s how you ensure survival.

Luxon's "I was out there building a kick-arse business" just galls me so much. Bro you were employed by a couple of gigantic inefficient enterprises. You did not build a pie shop or a landscaping business. You did not build a tech startup.

I’d love to know what people outside the industry think “data centre” actually means, because no one I know expects them to contain any jobs at all. As someone who has built several: any employee is a design flaw.
Update: Google just sent me a statement saying it is “rolling back” this AI feature that let anyone make completely bullshit satellite images. Comes after our demos of the tool and those from OSINT researchers. One of the worst AI tools I’ve ever seen bsky.app/profile/jose...
New from 404 Media: Google Earth has introduced an AI feature that lets anyone fabricate completely bullshit satellite images. In our own tests, we added a “bomb blast and crater” to an area of Los Angeles. This is a misinformation time bomb, will 100% be abused www.404media.co/google-earth...
Analysis: A multi-billion-dollar public-private partnership will build the most expensive road ever built in NZ but low benefit-cost ratios raise questions over value.
