It's been mostly due to successive punches of pandemic, streaming collapse, union strikes, studio consolidation and interest rates. This trend was in place way before Midjourney was pumping out pictures with 14 fingers.
the implication here is that in about 15 years gen alpha is going to be rehabilitating "they fly now" and "somehow palpatine returned" grim
prequels revisionism and declining youth literacy are the same phenomenon imo
A Korean king ordered a bunch of linguists to come up with a written language to increase literacy due to the difficulty of chinese and they came up with one of the easiest to read languages in existence.

one of my favorite gaming posts ever was a now-lost circa 2009 blog post from a game design prof lamenting that his (dang millennial) students were correct about how ultima iv is unplayable (because the lack of qol meant that the game is "really" about the friction rather than morality & philosophy)

the most fascinating part of this to me is all the parts talking about how murky the roles are at a game dev studio and how that greatly complicates the very concept of trying to unionize a game studio (and all the people who later became anti-union simply because of how of big a mess this is)
