Dave was an amazing scholar and an incredibly kind man. When I first came to Duke as a slightly uninformed exchange student I had the idea to write my Diplom thesis on a comparison of Congress and the Bundestag. Dave offered his help and gave me a desk in PIPC. He will be missed.

He was also a great advisor and so many of us owe him a debt of gratitude for helping launch our careers. When I'm puzzled by something, I'll often think to myself, what would Dave do. It usually helps.
