blackcurrants at Reston Farmers Market today - together with gooseberries & red currants, they were once common in the U.S. but largely disappeared after 1900s ban on growing them tied to white pine blister rust. Taste for them & culinary knowledge was lost so you rarely encounter them

Happy Bicycle Day! One of my earliest bicycle memories is sitting on a cushion tied on the back rack of my granny’s bicycle when she cycled from her farm down to the village shop. I thought that bicycle was lost but this photo showed up a few years ago (that’s not my granny but a Dublin cousin).
