With Catherine Ardagh's appointment as Minister of State, the number of women Ministers of State is back up to six (Hildegarde Naughton was promoted to Cabinet in Nov 2025). Of the 38 ministers (15 Cabinet Ministers & 23 Ministers of State) ten are women (26.3%) which is below the EU27 avg of 32.2%

6/23 (26%) Ministers of State are women, down from 6/20 (30%) in outgoing Gov. This, coupled with decrease of women appointed to cabinet means just nine of 38 minsters are women (23.7%),well below the Europe & North America avg of 32.5%. #notgoodenough @womenforelection.bsky.social @nwc.bsky.social

How Ireland Voted 2024 is published. My copies finally turned up yesterday having been delivered to a random address. Thanks to the lovely person who accepted them and kept them for me. Nice to have the physical book before Christmas and copies are starting to appear in bookshops as well.

Cabinet reshuffle:A return to 4 women in the 15-person cabinet, with Hildegarde Naughten promoted from junior ranks to Minister for Education. Helen McEntee becomes 1st woman to hold the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Ireland. Of 220 people appointed to Cabinet since 1918, just 24 are women (10.9%)
