Mass spectrometry, proteomics, Midwesterner. Views are my own.

Join us in a fun, crazy and interesting interdisciplinary research project that combines protein biophysics, evolutionary genomics, biomolecular archaeology, and textile research to resolve species identity and post-translational modifications in the structural proteins collagen and keratin

🚨 HEADS UP: If you haven't submitted a comment on the OMB proposal yet, there's still time - but it's running out! There are only 2 days left to push back against Russell Vought's attempt to give political appointees unprecedented control over federal research funding. Take Action: zurl.co/qTjQP

Graphic from Stand Up for Science urging action on a federal funding proposal. Large text reads: "2 Days Left" and "Help Us Stop Vought From Destroying American Science." A portrait of Russell Vought appears beside the U.S. Capitol. A banner along the bottom reads: "Submit a comment on the OMB proposal | Link in bio to take action." The Stand Up for Science logo appears in the top left.

If the proposed OMB rules pass, the Trump admin could strip funding for scientific researchers at any time if they decide a project no longer fits the "national interest.” Have you filed a comment yet? The deadline is Monday, July 13. #AcademicSky

Check out Elizabeth Ginexi's excellent breakdown of the OMB's proposed changes to the federal grant rules: open.substack.com/pub/elizabet... Public comments close Monday, 6/13, so we're holding a drop-in Comment-a-Thon tomorrow on Zoom and writing comments together. Message us for the link!

Acquisition news for bottom up and top down proteomics with Thermo acquiring Proteinaceous and MSAID. Proteinaceous was founded in 2016 (possibly earlier) as a spin out from Neil Kelleher’s lab at Northwestern. MSAID was spun out from Mathias Wilhelm and Bernhardt Kuster’s labs in 2019.

#AminoAcidAdvent Day 1: Proline The kinkiest of amino acids (NSFW!), synthesized from glutamic acid, and some even call it the simplest "enzyme". Regardless, its a pro move to include the hydroxyproline variable mod if your abundant proteins have collagen domains... really, do this.
