It’s hard enough for cities in Canada to do smarter things given how often bad city leaders hurt their own cities. But it’s extra infuriating watching awful provincial premiers sabotaging cities by ripping out good things they FINALLY managed to achieve. Premiers should not have that power, period.

"Ripping out these protected bike lanes against the will of Toronto city council is a colossal waste of $48 million. The province’s own experts know it will not ease traffic congestion, it will put people’s lives at risk…” One of the stupidest things I’ve ever seen any politician do to any city.

In August Bike Ottawa sent mayoral/ward candidates questions on transportation policy, cycling infrastructure etc. We’re still waiting to hear from a number of them.

Ask your ward candidates and mayoral candidates (links in post) to answer our questions. #ottbike bikeottawa.ca/2026/08/27/m...

Municipal elections: questions to candidates

Recently, Bike Ottawa sent all mayoral candidates and ward candidates a list of questions on transportation policy, cycling infrastructure, City budget, and more. We’ll report back in about a month…

Disparaging on social media local organizations that are solely volunteer based and doing the best they can is not kosher. In fact, it can discourage people from volunteering. I’m sick and tired of this. #ottbike

Recently Bike Ottawa helped with youth group discussions on transportation organized by Change Makers Club of Canada. Ottawa Youth Vision Project, a participant, wants to bring young people’s voices into the municipal election. We want to help. Please follow them and share. #ottcity www.oyvp.ca
