One of the climate modeling preprints that I cited in my feature, finding that AMOC was resilient and reversible to realistic Greenland melt, is out now in Science Advances. Not shockingly, it hasn't gotten broad coverage.

Limited impact of Greenland meltwater on abruptness and reversibility of future Atlantic overturning changes

Climate model simulations show the Atlantic overturning circulation can recover even from strong future Greenland ice sheet melt.

François Primeau, a UC Irvine professor, developed mathematical and computational ocean models that helped us understand the ocean's role in global climate. He was killed on his bike by someone driving a car. 🌊

Happy Midwinter to all Antarctic folks. A year ago today, I was at Elephant Island, where Shackleton and his men were marooned for months before the amazing journey to South Georgia and ultimate rescue. Elephant Island is just outside the Antarctic Circle, so we did see a sunrise, albeit briefly.

As far as I know, NASA has never put the contract to run the Jet Propulsion Laboratory out for competitive bid. Caltech has run the Lab since the 1930s. In the "up-is-down" times we live in, I'm VERY concerned for the Lab's future. This could go sideways, fast. www.nasa.gov/news-release...

sometimes you move to europe and you're like hang on, the easter bunny does not deliver a basket of radioactive colored candy that the kids have to sweep the premises for here?

Our PhD student Kennedy Orwa, who studies applications of AI to health care, was hastily deported today to Kenya along with his 13-year-old son without opportunity to speak to legal counsel. King 5 reports that he held a valid visa that was rescinded without explanation.

The largest payment eliminated by DOGE was $38,468,659 to the American Institutes for Research in the Behavioral Sciences for transition support services to adulthood for disabled children served under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. The missles in this video cost more than that.
