#AugCharWork 1 I need Harmony to do 3 things. Pursue the woman whose mind she can't read. Change her selfish yet self-destructive and isolationist ways. I need Harmony to open herself up to her own powers and learn to control them instead of suppressing them. Then she can make a difference. 1/2

August Character Workshop Day 1. #AugCharWork What Do They Need to Do? What do you, the author, need the character to do to make the story work? If this is your romantic lead, they need to fall in love. If this is your mystery detective, they need to detect.

The credits just rolled on the last episode of Andor. This show was everything I love about Star Wars. I am 100% going to watch it again. First I’m going to watch Rogue One for the first time in years. I wish they would make more like this instead of running back to the space wizards again.

I kind of want my second book to have mixed POVs. I’m talking two 1st person and one 3rd person with another occasional 3rd person who only pops up when necessary. Am I out of line? Any chance that could work? Do I pick one person to be 1st and accept the rest as 3rd? #writeSky #writingCommunity

#QueerWriters Saturday: Well I didn’t get to the inciting incident this week. I did manage to write 3 scenes and plot out another 5 in detail. Which includes the inciting incident so that’s a win at least. This is the first time I’ve attempted multi POV and it’s a lot of work.

#SummerOfStories 28 I am currently reading The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon. TBR includes A Pirate’s Life for Tea by Rebecca Thorne and Alien Clay by Adrian Tchaikovsky. I am also eagerly awaiting Alecto The Ninth sometime in the next decade 😜

#queerwriters Monday: I’m still letting Magic and Ash rest but I’ve started work on the second book in the trilogy. I’ve got a pretty good idea of the plot and new characters. My goal is to get to the inciting incident this week. Hopefully I’ll have a good handle on the antagonist by then…

A couple years ago my mom gave me a box filled with all her favourite recipes handwritten on cards. I have made the banana bread recipe half a dozen times and it has collapsed in on itself every time. I’ve been trying to figure out why. The recipe she gave me before didn’t have that problem. #baking

#SummerOfStories 24 Little Kyle: Your writing stinks. But don’t worry, you can learn. I know the idea of structure goes against everything you are but take a minute and learn. It’ll save us a lot of energy and hard feelings. Most importantly, write for yourself. Write for fun. Just keep writing.

#SummerOfStories 10 I’m able to listen to music or podcasts at work so I listened to a few writing podcasts. Half the time I’d be too busy day dreaming about my story to hear what they were saying. The other big one has been the monthly prompt games. I don’t think I would have finished otherwise.

I used to answer "plotter" before I saw what other people meant by "outline" 🤣 I have to know the destination I'm writing towards (beats, setpieces, "mie" for lack of a better term), but I leave myself a lot of flexibility when spinning out the connective tissue. #SummerOfStories

Fellow authors: without any context, what’s the first line of your current WIP? From Magic and Ash: As I dangled in the air on the precipice of life and death I thought of the woman I loved, the magic I didn't want, and the man who had almost killed me once before.

Fellow authors: Without any context, what's the first line of your current WIP? From Beeslingers: Countless stars spread over San Valentino Valley, like a silver swarm watching over the city with its brick palaces and its sleeping citizens.

I used to be a pantser but not anymore. I am a planner and I LOOOOOOOVE planning now. World building, Magic Systems, Characters, Families Backstories It's so much fun to build and plan - In turn, making writing the story so much easier. #SummerOfStories #WritingCommunity #WriteSky #WritingPrompt

#SummerOfStories 6 Oh writing… the worst part of writing for me is finding the words to convey what I’m imagining and then trying to convince myself that whatever I just wrote down isn’t embarrassingly bad. Mostly I get in my own way overthinking and questioning my ideas.
