That is a sort of a feature that I'd put under "optional". It's closer to a flash applet on a flash games site, understandable. But why does a website dedicated to posting and reading text need to be completely rendered in JS? If you open BS w/o JS its a blank page, not even a "this needs JS" msg
it uses the history API wrong, too: if you click into a post, and hit the in-app back button to go back to your timeline, your browser forward points to... the timeline again.

Single Page Applications are a cancer and must be eliminated, and anyone trying to develop a new one should be put down like a rabid animal. All web pages should be possible to use without Javascript. Want reactivity? Go advocate for HTMX to be standardised and implemented in browsers natively.

the URLs don't even correspond properly to UI state; there's no counterpart to old Twitter's <username>/with_replies, for example
There's a thing I've been noticing, where I'll be looking at "/notifications" or "/saved" and then load a post, and then load a profile or something, and load another post or something, and when I go back I return to "/notifications" and not anywhere in the pages I loaded to get to where I was.
Jesus fucking christ is this why it runs like dogshit on my pc 😭 is that why it refused to load sometimes 😭 Is this also why my battery drains like a motherfucker on my phone 😭 cuz they cant code a good site/app

If I want to check for new updates I'll reload the page myself
So like… is "bsky.app" deliberately designed so that you must open individual posts each in a new tab? Because the UI is unusable otherwise. For ex. if you search for something & get 1000 posts, you scroll down & down & when you want to see a post in context, clicking on it nukes the search UI state

It's so weird how Google Chrome won't let you halt the execution of Javascript on a web page. There are not even extensions that can do this. Why can't you just stop a page loaded in an unfocused tab from burning 5% of your CPU power FOREVER until you close the tab? Why design a browser like this?
I just closed a tab that was using a few percent of my CPU every ten seconds to do… apparently nothing. It was a musician's website that sells CDs. The page was a JPG of the CD & a paragraph text description & the price to mail-order it, etc. AND THAT'S IT! WHY HAS IT BEEN USING 3% CPU FOR HOURS?

I’ve never used the web app in a browser, but have you noticed how the native bsky app causes HORRENDOUS and unjustifiable battery drain?

DOING NOTHING! If I have a bunch of browser tabs open and then go to bed, when I wake up in the morning GIGABYTEs of RAM are now used up?
remember when coders used to be like "i rendered this entire fully raytraced 3d scene using just 4kb and i could have probably gotten it down to two and a half if the event was 3 days instead of 2", now all they know is ask claude, be on they phone, make chip hot and lie
