That is a sort of a feature that I'd put under "optional". It's closer to a flash applet on a flash games site, understandable. But why does a website dedicated to posting and reading text need to be completely rendered in JS? If you open BS w/o JS its a blank page, not even a "this needs JS" msg

it uses the history API wrong, too: if you click into a post, and hit the in-app back button to go back to your timeline, your browser forward points to... the timeline again.
the game i'm making (You Have Died) will run on a 486 on MSDOS
You can run the entire Windows 7 (32bit) Operating System in less memory than what the single web page "bsky.app" uses when running in a single Chrome browser tab. If you rendered BlueSky threads into PDF documents, those PDF documents would require less memory to display than what "bsky.app" uses.
Single Page Applications are a cancer and must be eliminated, and anyone trying to develop a new one should be put down like a rabid animal. All web pages should be possible to use without Javascript. Want reactivity? Go advocate for HTMX to be standardised and implemented in browsers natively.

Why would a failed RPC call checking for new notifications in the background cause the entire PostThread to UI to be hidden & then reset? oh… # CLAUDE.md – Bluesky Social App Development Guide Dialogs use a bottom sheet on native and a modal on web. Use `useDialogControl()` hook to manage state.
Me: Reading, not touching my computer. BlueSky: ⚠ Not Found Unable to connect. Please check your internet connection and try again. ↺ Try again Me: Try what again? I wasn't doing anything!
the URLs don't even correspond properly to UI state; there's no counterpart to old Twitter's <username>/with_replies, for example
There's a thing I've been noticing, where I'll be looking at "/notifications" or "/saved" and then load a post, and then load a profile or something, and load another post or something, and when I go back I return to "/notifications" and not anywhere in the pages I loaded to get to where I was.
Jesus fucking christ is this why it runs like dogshit on my pc 😭 is that why it refused to load sometimes 😭 Is this also why my battery drains like a motherfucker on my phone 😭 cuz they cant code a good site/app

please help Andria stay afloat while finding shelter
hi. i have been staying at a motel since i escaped my abuser two weeks ago, and the shelter i found kicked me out 10 minutes before i was supposed to check in because they found out im trans please help www.gofundme.com/f/help-andri...
like, you're not beholden to "humanity", so you can do radically anti-humanist things, such as change your body how you wish, sympathize with animals, historicize the movement of human institutions, and solidarity by mode of conscious will rather than nationalistic or familial obligation. it's neat
it's honestly pretty fun being the enemy of humanity
really loving all the protests against and support for trans women happening in and around the WNBA, a league that has never had a trans woman play in it. we’re just THAT interesting to talk about! for everyone! how fun!!!!
Yall would live this talk on the "web obesity crisis" from 2015: idlewords.com/talks/websit...

* Infinite Scroll * No Ability To Navigate/Seek To Specific Content * No Ability To Search For Specific Content * No Ability To Save/Store Content For Later Retrieval * Limited Ability To Select Which Content You Receive * Content Continuously Updated With No Ability To Pause This is broadcast TV!
Every modern website is designed like it's continuously streaming broadcast television twenty four hours per day, seven days a week, even when there is no video & the entire webpage is just three paragraphs of static text & maybe a JPG. If I want to check for new updates I'll reload the page myself
So like… is "bsky.app" deliberately designed so that you must open individual posts each in a new tab? Because the UI is unusable otherwise. For ex. if you search for something & get 1000 posts, you scroll down & down & when you want to see a post in context, clicking on it nukes the search UI state
I can't just load a bunch of threads into a bunch of tab to read through later... because my poor four year old computer with 16GB (billion bytes) of RAM doesn't have enough fucking memory to load twenty threads on "bsky.app" which only contain a few KB... a few thousand bytes of fucking ASCII TEXT
How often are flights not shown on flight radar? Cuz definitely just had a loud low helicopter flyover that didn’t show up. I think this is the 2nd in the last 30 days Just curious
What does it mean if there's a helicopter flying around in a circle, and ADS-B Exchange says it has no callsign?

the idea that being against sissy shit is “against gender nonconforming men” is funny because a) the problem with it isn’t the gender nonconformity it’s the disturbing fetishistic misogyny and transmisogyny and b) sissy shit reifies patriarchal dynamics…
It's so weird how Google Chrome won't let you halt the execution of Javascript on a web page. There are not even extensions that can do this. Why can't you just stop a page loaded in an unfocused tab from burning 5% of your CPU power FOREVER until you close the tab? Why design a browser like this?
I just closed a tab that was using a few percent of my CPU every ten seconds to do… apparently nothing. It was a musician's website that sells CDs. The page was a JPG of the CD & a paragraph text description & the price to mail-order it, etc. AND THAT'S IT! WHY HAS IT BEEN USING 3% CPU FOR HOURS?

you people don’t really give a fuck about fairness, you just don’t want your precious kids to be anywhere near our kids — trans kids — for fear of your kids realizing or pursuing any sort of personal actualization that isn’t just what you want for them — to replicate *you*. it’s fucking degenerate
That’s the worst part about all this, I don’t give a fuck about sports but apparently it’s the altar upon which the cis have decided we’re all going to be sacrificed.
Sorry to be the Fedi poster but like it's insane just how bloated bluesky and other social media can be when I load up Smolfedi and it just works

I’ve never used the web app in a browser, but have you noticed how the native bsky app causes HORRENDOUS and unjustifiable battery drain?
The utter embarrassment of being a web developer whose pages run like this and then don't turn out to be mining Monero in a background thread
Every fucking website that's just a few paragraphs of text and maybe a few images is now constantly burning up CPU time, network bandwidth, and leaking memory... DOING NOTHING! If I have a bunch of browser tabs open and then go to bed, when I wake up in the morning GIGABYTEs of RAM are now used up?
remember when coders used to be like "i rendered this entire fully raytraced 3d scene using just 4kb and i could have probably gotten it down to two and a half if the event was 3 days instead of 2", now all they know is ask claude, be on they phone, make chip hot and lie
