Google are stuffing AI bollocks in their Google Play Books app with "Book Insights". AI summaries - DON'T! WANT! If authors want to block this for their books, let Google know. Luckily, it hasn't turned up in my copy of "The AI Con" ... Yet? So @emilymbender.bsky.social can breathe easy for now.

If anyone in the UK is racking their brains about why Graham Platner's face popping up on the socials is freaking them out slightly, apart from the obvious, i think i know why. He is the spitting image of the mayor of Trumpton. Same blank stare and general disregard for the community.

Mayor of Trumpton

by request i'm going to share a quick thread of collections where people have pulled together articles / resources / arguments about ai harms and how to resist them this is by alphabetical order in my bookmarks, it's not comprehensive, feel free to add to the list of lists

#Kobo tip. If you want to read with white text on a black background, you can activate "invert screen". This can be found by clicking on "settings", then "device information". This is where you can select "developer options" and find the toggle switch for "invert screen". #Reading #eReaders

Watching governments and corporations piss away BILLIONS on war, grift, and reality-denying machines I never want to hear the phrase "We can't afford it" come out of a politician's/CEO's mouth ever again.

A huge thank you to @hagenblix.bsky.social and Ingeborg Glimmer for writing "Why We Fear AI". They do an excellent job of explaining how AI is the turbo boost mode for capitalist extraction, which will ultimately fuck everybody up. I really hope Werner Herzog is available to read the audiobook.

If you need to complete an opinion survey/give a performance rating about another employee in the same organization that you work in* - you DEFINITELY need to get your workplace unionized ASAP *I think this might be quite common practice in higher ed institutions

It’s one of the easiest things to game if you want to dabble in a little wage theft. And they are fundamentally anti-labor. I get why people feel morally obligated to do them but it’s not great. jacobin.com/2021/04/cust...
