As someone who worked at Screen Rant and was forced to write probably 100 GTA articles I didn’t want to, yes this is most certainly a mandated thing by Valnet - big brain people who see one article pop off and think they’ve found the recipe for success

Obviously what we’re seeing at Polygon sucks ass but let’s keep it in perspective that this is clearly some kind of Valnet mandate and should not be laid at the feet of the writers who would have never done that shit and are just as annoyed as anyone else.

Games journalism isn't exactly the most lucrative job in the world, especially when you have integrity and write your truths. It's even harder when you write something negative. People don't tend to like negative, especially developers, but it still needs to be written.

Being a games critic is fun, sure. Sometimes, you get to connect with game developers, give and receive feedback, and if all goes well, spark a conversation. But others, your negative opinion may be taken too seriously, inciting backlash. I want to talk about it.

This one is a CHONK, but I also got to introduce @tyschalter.com to Chou Aniki because he introduced the phrase "ethical horniness" into my life and I couldn't let that stand. Also, we go deep on the state of games journalism and how sometimes we just wanna WRITE about games.

It's FunFactor Fuuuuuuuuuednesday! What does "ethical horniness" in games look like? Can @tyschalter.com survive his first encounter with Chou Aniki? Can we just WRITE again? All that plus a look at whether movie tie-in games ruined video games in the early 2000s in the latest episode of FunFactor!
